Does you child resist you teaching them something? Like if you were to work with them on telling time, reading, or something like that, do they listen and try or do they just tune you out? For those that homeschool, do you ever find this to be a problem?

Troy is tuning me out and saying things like "I can figure it out on my own". He'll do anything DH says, but me, it's a battle. Reason 72354 why I don't homeschool personally. He did this when he was younger with letters, and now with pretty much anything. It's like he thinks I am stupid

My kids don't want me to teach them in a traditional way. If I sit with them and try to do worksheets or focus on some kind of learning task - NO WAY. However, if I do it in a creative way, like sing a song about the sounds letters make, days of the week, seasons etc. They love it. Or if we sit down to do a craft and it includes writing/forming letters we're good.

My daughter can be like this as well. She did this when we were working VERY hard to get her to write her whole name, she could but refused and would only do it for her sister. Now me being a teacher and her lacking in some areas I want to work with her in areas at times she's receptive other times...she's not paying any attention to me. I figure she's getting it in school so I let her go most of the time. Now if I sit down and so something fun, like bring out the play-doh or shaving cream she'll come flying most days, depends on her mood.

Leah has been like that with me since she was little. Whenever she senses I am teaching her something, she shuts down. It's frustrating, especially since I am a teacher!
