Hello!

I'm Dutch, my girls are 7 & 4. The schooling system works different here, just trying to find out what group they fit in. I'm sure they're not toddlers anymore, but I'm guessing Josephine (4) is a preschooler? What about Anna? Gradschooler? Ugh, I've no idea! Help XP LOL

Going strictly by ages, that sounds right.

How does the schooling system work there?

Okay i'll join the club then hehe!!
Just pretty simple here; they start primary at age 4, finish that at age 12.
Then at 12 they start secondairy school. There are 3 types of educational levels there ( generally). The lowest finishes at 16 , the second at 17, and the highest at 18; they've completed their A-levels then and cna go straight to university.

Welcome welcome! Glad you'll be joining us. I try to post daily GTKY type questions. Some are geared towards us moms others towards our preschoolers (3, 4, & sometimes 5 year olds here). Feel free to jump in and respond to any, create your own posts, whatever.

Thanks for answering my question about how y'all do things. That's interesting. What determines if they stop at 16, 17, or 18?

@Cesca It depends on many factors, but very bluntly said: intelligence and motivation.
When they stop at 16, that's called VMBO; they can go to some sort of college that prepares them for 'lower' (don't mean to insult anyone, worked as a nanny and a cleaner myself during my teen/uni years ) jobs like a hairdresser, cleaner, etc.
When they stop at 17, "Havo", they can do higher jobs, like a teacher etc, but not university
When you stop at 18, "Vwo", that's usually for the brightest kids that can handle the most difficult schooling. It prepares you for university with the intention for them to be something like a lawyer, doctor, etc.
I hope that explains it a litty! It's hard to explain when it's so 'normal' for me, like explaining how to walk XP

That's really neat. I find it different that y'all can be teachers without going to university but I love reading about different cultures and stuff. Thank you so much for sharing.

@Cesca Yea me too, that's why I come here It depends though; to be an elementary school teacher you don't need uni, but for a secondairy school teacher I think you do (like, if you're a French teacher you'll need to have studied French, for instance). Although they accept lower educations too now that there's a huge shortage of teachers lol... Not so good on the schooling system XP
