What's everyone's experience with having a preschooler and a new baby? I gave Josephine a new baby doll to help prepare her a little and to make it a little more real to her. I think because she's 4 already it might be a little easier than with a 1 or 2 year old since there's more I can explain to her. What's everyone's experience?

I have a 5 year old and an almost 4 year old, currently 20 wks pg. My boys are very excited about the new baby, they (and me!) are hoping for a baby sister. Oddly my youngest is excited about not being the baby anymore, he cant wait to be a big brother like his own big brother.
What did she say when you told her?
I know when Mason was born, Stone who was 14 mths at the time wasn't entirely too happy that we had to bring Mason home from the hospital... lol but he got used to it and now they are best friends.
Taht's so cute!! Anna and Josephine were both very excited when I told them! They were all Hyper lol, and we kept them up for an hour later than usual, they just couldn't sleep with all the excitement XP the only thing that's bothering her is that it's such a long wait. She asks every day" is the baby coming today?" and then she's highly disappointed!

When we had Sean, Mike (my stepson) was 4. We really didn't prepare him much. I told him I couldn't wrestle (we all rough play...LOL) anymore cause I had a baby in my tummy. That's about it.
When we had Kayley, Sean was 5. With his Asperger's we knew we'd have to prepare him more than we had with Mike so we got "big brother" and "new baby" books from the library and we bought him a doll to practice holding.
Both did great with the addition of a new baby. Kayley'll never really need to learn as we're done. However we have some good friends who are expecting so we may need to prepare her for them having a baby cause she's used to them doting on her whenever we go up.

That is a problem here too! My youngest, asks me everytime I go to the dr if the baby will be taken out today lol We are going for my big U/S tomorrow and he's going with us. I cant wait to see what he thinks of seeing the baby on screen!
Isabelle was 3 when Miranda was born and she had a bit of a hard time. She wasn't really jealous of the baby or trying to hurt her or anything like that, but she regressed a bit. She became more clingy to me and needed me to carry her around and cried a lot. Plus we had a lot of issues with her potty training (I started just a bit before the baby was born), which may or may not have something to do with it. She was also a bit rough with the baby at times.
I found it really tiring taking care of the newborn and catering to her every whim. My older 2 were already 4 when the sibling came along, so they were way more independent and they had already started school, so there was more peace at home.
I think 3 is just a hard age in general and if I were to do it again (which I am not) I would make sure there is either a smaller or bigger gap.
He was amazed by it! Now he truely believes there is a baby in there! The Tech even gave him his own 3d picture of her face and yes for those who dont know, We're having a sister!!!!
