Kayley's to start her last year of preschool this August so I need to start thinking about Kindy for her.

Is anyone else in this boat?

Will you do public, private, or homeschool?

Do you have an option between multiple schools of your chosen (private/public)?

Are you like me and want to cry because Kindy is only a year away?

I'm still a couple years away but thinking about it already.

We will most likely do public school, our default neighborhood school. There are a handful in our district and we would be provided busing to any of them, but we prefer this one.

Our state is a "school choice" one so we could apply to go to any public school, and if accepted we would have to provide our own transportation. There aren't any schools significantly enough better than our neighborhood schools to make it worth the hassle.

Our son's birthday is Sept. 2, so he misses the cutoff for kindergarten by one day. If we go by state law, he will turn 6 almost a week before school starts that year (assuming school starts the day after Labor Day (also a state law) which is Sept. 7.)

I believe we can petition to have the cutoff waived. I am pretty sure we will want to do that. He has been in Montessori day care since he was 3 months old, so I feel that he will be at the right level developmentally if he turns 5 on the first day of kindergarten. (Coincidentally his birthday that year!)

The bonus is we save thousands of dollars by not needing that extra year of day care!

our schooling might be different over here.
what age do your kids start kindy?

here they like kids to either start grade 00 at preschool or else at their big school. but they have to start primary school by grade 0 ( the year they turn 6).

we gonna have to do private school. public school here is way too overcrowded. and homeschooling isnt big here at the moment so the support and infrastructure isnt in place.

I think were different too.

Kinder is 3-4yrs old
School is from 5 and up

My kids all go public though, I am an avid supporter of public education in Australia.

Kindy in the States is typically 5y/o. I was 4 because the cut off in our area was Sept 30th and my bday is the 23rd.

Kayley's gonna go to Kindergarten next school year (2013-2014). We have 2 public elementary schools in our district that she could go to. I don't know which one we'll send her to yet. I'm homeschooling my son, but I won't homeschool her. She's too sociable, I don't think she'll learn very well by herself.

Stone starts Kindy this year. He is going to public school, same place he did PreK. I cant believe he's starting K this year and am already overwhelmed by the supply list. 12 gluesticks?!? seriously you need 12 gluesticks and fakkin 8 boxes of crayons? Though I suppose they are preparing for things to be broken...and maybe eaten? lol

We homeschool- so I go by when the kid is ready for school, not their age on a calendar. Allison is doing a pre-k/k mix for the next couple of years, even though around here she'd still be in day care. She gets more socialization as a homeschooler than I did as a public school child. We go to different playgroups, co-op, and MOMS Club, we are gone 5 to 7 days of the week. I'm a SAHM, who never stays at home!
