Which kiddos are going on the potty?
Anyone have plans of trying to potty train soon?

Like I said in another thread, I'm terrified of it... but it's a good time at daycare with neighbor boy finishing up training and a little girl 4 months older then Juliet currently training... and the daycare provider said she trained her boys around 18 months. So I've been saying for a while I'd use my week off after Xmas to give it a good try and see how it goes. Obviously I'm pretty clueless about potty training, in general. So any tips? methods? books?

If it doesn't work out, I'm not going to stress about it, I know it's early. But I don't often have a chunk of time to dedicate to Juliet like that, so that's why I figured it would be worth trying.

Our pediatrician appointment yesterday included lots of chat about this. She talked a lot about positive modelling and not making too big a deal about it. It's not really time for us to even think about it with G, but I do put him on the potty for every poop just because it works out with his issues.

With my sister's kids I always seem to be there for this time of their lives and with the eldest one I put the potty in front of the tv when I knew she had to go, gave her a cup of apple juice and there we waited. This was after failed attempts with books in the washroom. The girls all caught on really quickly but I hear scary things about boys, so we'll see. She also switched to cloth diapers at night to work on training for nights. That's the only time she used cloth so she bought cloth pull ups just for this and loved them.

Well we have a potty, she likes to sit on it, and I've started talking a lot about what we're doing in the bathroom, asking her if she pooped, etc. So just being positive about it. I want to get her a potty book for xmas (this one: Amazon.com: Potty (Leslie Patricelli board books) (9780763644765): Leslie Patricelli: Books ).

As for formal training... I don't know. I may take a run at it before the baby arrives, but every time I think about it I realize how convenient it is to leave her in diapers and not have to drop everything and run her to the bathroom.

Oh yes...that's what the ped said...read potty books and say things like "I let my poop out" "It's good to let our poop out" but not making too big a celebration...keep it casual

We have a couple books (we have that exact one Natalie), she's telling us when she poops and likes sitting on the potty. I haven't gotten her little potty out lately, but maybe I should. She watches us go and loves to flush and wave bye bye to the contents of the toilet. I'm thinking big girl panties and/or training pants might be in her stocking this year... just because I haven't gotten anything else to fill it Tonight I'll try to talk to daycare and see what she thinks, since she knows better than I do how Juliet is about it there... I know over the summer she was super interested in what was going on in the bathroom. I'll see if she still is and see what strategies they are using with the other little girl, who will be 2 in February. It just kind of hit me today when I got an email notice from Amazon my next box of diapers shipped... so I have almost a 2 month supply when they come... and if all goes well, that could be the last big box I buy

E loves to read books about the potty, but she screams whenever we set her on the potty chair so it will be awhile for us I guess. We have that potty book Natalie. It's really cute!

We got him the Elmo goes to the Potty DVD and a potty, and we've let his interest go on it's own. Given how much he likes Elmo, it's no surprise he has a LOT of interest.

Claire has a potty and she says "go potty" when I go to the bathroom and she often goes with me. I have set her on her potty but she doesn't want to stay there. She hasn't peed or poo'd in there yet but she has peed right next to it, no the rug. And when she does that I know she is holding it because it comes out with some force. I am not really pushing it but it's there so she is being exposed to it.

Haven't tried and I'm not going to bother until he's good and ready. I'm in no rush. I started at around this age with the twins and it was a waste of time for them because they weren't ready. It's a big commitment, so I'm not going to start until he's totally ready and I'm ready to 100% commit to it. I think it's much easier to potty train when they are old enough to understand some sort of reward system. The sticker chart worked like a charm for Avery! Other than being "ready", that's what finally did the trick for my kids.

I'd also say to only use Pull Ups (if you want to use them) when you leave the house and at night. They are basically just a fancy diaper that looks like undies.

My sister and I both potty trained in front of the TV and it worked well for my kids too. They lost interest way too quickly when I kept the potty chair in the bathroom. I ended up keeping it in the family room and it worked great! It was so hard to get them in the bathroom fast enough when they were first learning.

I haven't thought about starting this yet with Mark. I know we'll need to think about it soon, he's growing up so fast. He loves Elmo too so that DVD sounds interesting. And that book looks adorable.
