The other day I had a bath...by myself! There was a copy of Us or People or something like that that I'd never read in there. I read about half of it in there and I kept getting so angry about everything in it.

I thought I'd come in here and chat about it with you guys but of course I left it so long that I can't even remember what I read anymore. The one article I do remember was about Jessica Simpson's pregnancy. I'm not a big fan of hers, but wow did I feel badly for that poor woman. They were going on about what she's eating, how she's eating it, where she's eating it, who's getting it for her...on and on. It was kind of entertaining when we would air our self confessions on here during our pregnancies, but I can't imagine how I'd feel if someone else wrote it all out for me.

Anyway...what have you pointlessly gotten yourself riled up about lately?

Yes yes yes. I get sad, angry and hope with all of my heart that my daughter never falls victim to this sort of treatment. Being a celebrity is a double edged sword.

The media is a crazy beast. I don't know much about Jessica Simpson as a person but the poor woman should be able to feel pregnant for a moment!! I assume they were talking about how fat she was. It's sad. I craved (as in, dreamed every night) coffee when I was pregnant and thought everyone was judging me when I would break down and order a decaf. I can't imagine what it would be like to know that everyone was judging

Ok at first when I saw the title to this thread I thought trashy mags as in you know, trashy

I don't read them but I will scan all the covers while I'm waiting to check out at the grocery store. I feel bad for all the celebrities that try to keep a semi quiet existence and then all these rumors are spread about them that aren't even true!

My mom buys all of the trashy mags and when she's done she gives them to me. I flip through them and look at the pics, but I rarely read the articles. Most of it is mean and almost all of it is lies so I try not to get sucked in.

I don't read those things, but yes it's terrible how our society treats celebrities most of the time... as if they're personal property or something. Who really cares about what people eat while pregnant or whatever? I've never idolized actors or celebrities... just not my thing... I appreciate their acting and like watching certain shows and movies, but their personal life is way beyond my sphere of caring.

On the other hand, people ought to know what they're signing up for when they go in for a career like that. I think it's messed up and it shouldn't be like this, but it is. And it's been like this for a long time. And if you're going to be an actor/actress voluntarily... well.... that's part of the package I guess. People like me definitely should never aim for a career like that! I stay way out of the spotlight if I can.

I agree and disagree Natalie... I think there are some celebrities that absolutely choose how "public" they are or aren't. Some are very delibrate about staying in or out of the lime light. I do think there are some that get caught in it unintentionally though, like if the movie they did was an unexpected hit or something.

As for Jessica Simpson, I feel bad for her! She was intentionally in the spot light when she was so young and didn't know any better (her dad should have though!). And know she can't get rid of it it seems.

Any celebrity that does a tv show about their day to day life is most likely the sort of person who loves publicity though. There are plenty of big celebs who get almost no media attention because they don't go searching for it.

I agree with this. There are those celebs who go hunting for publicity (good or bad, mostly bad it seems!) Having your life dissected is an occupational hazard though. I would love to be in a hit movie and act and everything, but I do NOT want to be in the spotlight like that.

And it seems like Jessica can't catch a break. I've seen a few positive articles, but most of the ones I come across are mean and just hateful. I give the media half of the blame for that. Most of the articles I come across in general are negative. It's sad when the positive, uplifting ones are the rarity.

I don't buy them, but when I worked a clinic I would do the crosswords when I was board.

I love trashy gossip magazines! As far as celeb attention, I think it comes along with the job title.
