In your family, among friends or at work, what are you known for or teased about?
I am the bleeding heart and defender of standing for your beliefs.
I fight for recycling (my family doesn't freaking recycle!! ), don't eat meat unless I know where it came from and whether it was humanely treated (I only eat meat a couple times a year but I will totally eat a Venison Stew) and I am so very against this never ending war. It makes me cry frequently. The ring on my finger is an ice blue Ceylon Sapphire instead of a diamond because I was trying to prove a consumerism point and my DH listens well.
Also, My sister calls me the Vegan Atheist for dramatic effect. I am NOT A VEGAN!
Just wondering what it is that stands out about you to the people you spend the most time with.

I'm kind of the crazy one in both families. I'm still nursing Kate at 18 months, I do natural births, I babywear and cosleep. Not to mention that when I mentioned I won't be circumcising any sons I have DH's family was horrified. At this point I think DH's family just kinda wrote me off as the weird one and doesn't really blink at my strangeness with the kids now. LOL
Before that I was the dog obsessed person. I love animals and I used to work for a non-profit and I'm majorly for dog and cat adoption, keeping your cats inside, getting pets spayed/neutered, and generally taking care of them (which a lot of people don't, sadly). So family learned not to bring up that topic around me (since half of DH's family hates pets and some of them hunt).
I'm also a major computer geek with my computer and phone and xbox and all that fun stuff. But instead of getting me teased like it used to now it just gets me phonecalls about computers that aren't working.
Oh, and DH and I are both Atheists as well. My parents are atheists and DH's dad is, but the other half of DH's family is Christian and that can lead to some interesting conversations between DH and them. I stay out of it. lol

I'm the crazy cat lady. Everyone knows it. I've been given 2 sets of crazy cat lady figurines. I volunteered at an animal shelter the first 5 years we were in the US, I fostered kittens, I did trap-neuter-return of feral cats at DHs work, socialised numerous litters of feral kittens, and at one stage had 13 cats in the house - my 3 plus 2 separate litters of kittens I just happened to get foisted on me at the same time. Thankfully after a couple of days I could pass on one of the litters once I found another temporary home, but yeah... that's my thing! Since Zoe was born though, I don't have time for it anymore.
I was the inspiration for this though - https://sites.google.com/site/gcatrescue/home
Oh and we get the atheist thing, but not to a great extent. My father-in-law is a very conservative Catholic, so everything we do upsets him, but he only vents to my MIL and SIL - I think he knows we just won't take it.

Amongst family I'm probably teased for the way I talk more than anything. I'm always accused of having the "thinking of a typical southerner" Whatever the hell that means. I am often ridiculed for my quick temper too. I'm just a passionate person and really don't fit in with DH's family AT ALL. They are all so passive and quiet, avoid conflict at all costs, etc. I'm sure when Mark brought me around I was a big shock to them lmao

Oh I forgot about that. Since I'm Canadian I say a few things "weird" and everyone likes to tease me about it. And they say things like, "You're cold? Aren't you Canadian?"

I am still breastfeeding as well. I forgot that I was constantly getting "wooooow! Breastfeeding? Still?" but that was almost six months ago. People let me be these days because they know I will get on my soap box and start talking about the benefits, statistics, development ... ... I'm a hippie unless you talk to an actual hippie

Apparently im the unpredictable, crazy one in my family. Found out from my mom there has been lots of talk about my marriage, seperation, and my current situation. Most of them can't believe why I did it in the first place, but there were very receptive and supportive and loving, especially with Xander, at Thanksgiving. But that's the way my mom's side of the family is, they talk and act nice when they are around, but passive-aggresively find a way to talk about you behind your back to where you can't really call them out on it.

I get made fun of my doll collection first off then when they find out most are infant simulators (Baby Think it Overs that the schools use) they lay it on thicker. Since having Coby my dolls pretty much either sit around or he plays with a couple of them.
I also get made fun of or my family starts in on me, which pisses me way off, that I'm going to turn my son gay because I have bought him dolls, let him play with dolls, got him a play kitchen for Christmas, I've let him play with his sister's Christmas present (a dolly stroller that matches the dolly car seat I got him last year), etc. No matter what I say they'll keep repeating that he'll be gay. I worked in preschool and know pretend play mimicking real life is very important play. As well as he likes to play with those things. He also loves to play with balls, cars, blocks, and other "boy" toys.

Right now i'm ... I guess "The girl getting ready to testify in court." or maybe the girl scared of her own shadow. I don't know. It royally sucks and I can't wait to go back to just being the obnoxious bigmouth. Or at least the bigmouth whose statements don't carry a life sentence.

If you ask my family...I'm stubborn, determined, sarcastic, and I've always been "the good one". Since my mom died, I've taken over the roll of family care taker. I "mother" my sister like crazy and it drives her nuts! I can't help myself!
I'm constantly made fun of by a group of friends for being a bad driver because I've been in a lot of car accidents, however NONE of them have been my fault! They are my oldest friends and have been around to know about all of my car accidents and they love to give me a hard time about it.
I am the most patient person in the world with people, but when it comes to technology I have zero patience. I can touch one button on the computer and it'll freeze up, then I get mad and hit 10 buttons, which just makes more of a mess! Technology and I just don't really get along! DH loves to make fun of me on that one.

I'm the letter writer. Whenever something is unfair, unjust or I just don't agree with it I threaten to write a letter. I don't say it anymore because there is always someone around to say "you should write a letter" as soon as it happens. A bunch of comediens I tell you.
In groups of new people I'm usually told I'm funny.
I'd probably also be voted most likely to get into an argument...who me?
My mom used to call me her "little socialist" as I do like a cause.
Baby lover
Care taker...if you're sick...you call me. If you don't know what to do...call me.
Interesting thread.

I'm a letter writer! I write them all the time. My dad is my proofreader to make sure I haven't been so emotionally charged that I am not taken seriously and when I tell DH I wrote a letter he says "Of vourse you did". We have a friend's wife that said she was unhappy with something and she was going to write a letter. Sam was SHOCKED that there was someone else in the world that did that
I just wrote one last week to the HR department for charging us $980 for family insurance. That's with the company picking up a portion. Right.

I'm known as the crafty one, even though I have very little time for much anymore.
I'm also the one my family seems to call for advice on everything, even things I honestly have no clue about. Years before I even was TTC or had children, my SILs would call me up for random advice. It was funny. Even now, I get calls about taxes, car repairs, water heater making funny noises, Insurance questions, etc. You name it, I get the call about it.

I'm the one who has a million ideas but never follows through on anything. It's totally true, too...I love starting projects, but I almost never see anything through to completion. Pfft, whatever.
My close friends also know I'm the stable one. The listener. I don't go out much, but my door is always open. My friend Nancy travels all over the place working on farms, cruise ships, living in tents on the beach in Hawaii, but my place is her home base. When she's in town she stays with me and I feed her. I love to hear her stories and she loves to relax on my couch, drink tea and eat soup.
