it may not be "holiday" but I made these yesterday:
Chocolate Chip Cookie & Oreo Fudge Brownie Bar | Brown Eyed Baker
omg so yummy and rich, especially over vanilla ice cream. Tonight I packed them up to send to work with DH so I don't eat any more

I also made sugar cookies, using this recipe: Sugar Cookies | Cookie Recipes | Brown Eyed Baker

have I mentioned I love that blog?

I have to make a bunch of sugar cookies this week for a cookie exchange friday evening. Wheeeefun.

My sugar cookie recipe is passed down from my mom. I don't even know if it's rightfully called a sugar cookie. But they are freakin' good and I will eat every last one.

Quote:
Aunt Mary Cookies

Ingredients
1 cup white sugar
1 cup butter
2 eggs – well beaten
2 ½ cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 ½ tsp. cream of tartar
½ tsp. salt
to taste vanilla extract

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
2. Soften butter and mix with sugar. Add all other ingredients and mix together.
3. Roll out and cut into shapes.
4. Bake for approximately 10 minutes.
I'm going to have issues with the rolling out though. No where to do it.

Thanks for sharing a family recipe!! Josh LOVES sugar cookies, and I would love to try a "from scratch" batch!!

But basically I make sugar cookies & some sort of bread. Haven't decided which kind to make yet...I'm looking for a new recipe myself. I always seem to make pumpkin chocolate chip!

I have all of my grandma's holiday baking recipes. <3 Love her!

My favorite is her pumpkin bars:

4 eggs
2 cups sugar
2 tsp baking soda
1.5 cups oil
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
2.5 cups flour
24oz. canned pumpkin

- Mix by hand
- pour into 12x16 shallow pan (cookie sheet)
- Bake at 325 degrees for 20 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean

Cream Cheese frosting:

8oz cream cheese, room temp
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter or margarine, room temp
3.5 cups powdered sugar (1/2 bag)
1 tsp vanilla extract

- Beat cream cheese and butter
- add powdered sugar and vanilla
- mix well & frost bars!

These are amazing and you won't regret making them!

And just to share more here are some pics of my favorite holiday cookies. Snickerdoodles, chocolate star cookies and chocolate crackle cookies.

And these are also awesome, even if they arent "baked". They are just bugles dipped in almond bark and covered in sprinkles...so easy and so good!

DH's dad is Jewish (though non-practicing) so we do Hanukkah dinner on Christmas day. I'm making a chocolate-cinnamon babka. Problem is, I've never had it or tried to make it so I have no frame of reference. Here's the recipe I'm going to use:Smitten Kitchen-- Chocolate Babka Wish me luck! I love a good baking challenge!

I was wondering why you were looking for Babka recipes. I grew up eating that at my Grandma's house during the holidays. She would always have that sitting on the counter, teasing everyone until after dinner! Her's wasn't homemade though but living in Miami Beach, authentic Jewish deli's were on every corner I'd love to hear how it turns out!

As for me, I haven't quite decided what to make yet. This is my first gluten free holiday baking event. I'd love to make everything GF for everyone but that would literally cost and arm and a leg since GF flour is $20 for a 5lb sack So I will make some treats for Colton and I and make everything else regular. I will most likely do sugar cookies, snickerdoodles (my fav), some sort of thumbprint cookie, and a couple breads. Now that I have my stand mixer it will be easier to make larger batches of things

I usually like ginger snaps although I lost my favourite recipe years ago and all others since just aren't the same for some reason. I also try and make shortbread (1/2 scottish side of me coming out) with real butter that gets the arms tired trying to mix it up. Sugar? cookies I did one with sweet flavoured creamcheese last year and they were easy and yummy for the kids to do.
