Not sure how it's meant... if it's a joking like... I don't even know what to compare it to. Like a van with Free Candy painted on the side... a joke about being inappropriate... then it's kinda tacky, but funny.
If it's just someone winked at someone else breastfeeding then hell, I don't know. Was it an old person? They wink at odd things. I never know what to do when people wink, for any reason. I freeze and either don't respond quick enough or give a lame smile. Doesn't really matter what the wink was for, but I don't think having a boob out would help.

It's about supporting other bf'ing mothers in public. Other women will sometimes wink at you if they see you NIP. If I make eye contact with another mother NIP I will smile at her since like I said I suck at winking lol

Oh I've never heard of that... I'd rather someone give me a nice smile, or just not really pay attention. A wink would throw me off. I also can't wink either. I also don't like strangers acknowledging me in public, period, breastfeeding or not. I'm not very social with people I don't know. I know I'm weird like that though.

Sorry to confuse but that was my problem too! I didn't get it. Was it offensive? Was it nice? Supportive?
It just said "Hey, women that BR, What's up with not winking back?"
I guess I'm with Erin. I'd rather no one acknowledged, but if you must a smile is perfectly fine. A wink is confusing.
Thank's it. Just curious

Hmmmm, never heard of this. Through all three kids I have never been winked at while NIP. I would probably be flustered if someone winked at me.

I was confused too, but I'm reading it as a joke and I see the humour in it...as I do with most things.

Oh now I get it. If I was NIP I'd be with Erin. I'd rather not get any attention for it at all but a smile would be better than a wink. Winking is creepy!

I'm the odd ball and welcome someone being supportive of me NIP even though I don't anymore these days. It opens up the conversation that hopefully others will hear The statement most likely was made by someone who is considered a "Lactivist" Nowadays if I see a mama NIP I make sure to smile at her, likewise with someone babywearing. More women need to hear those words of support these days especially with all the negativity surrounding NIP.

I always like positive interaction when I NIP too. I rarely need to do it anymore anyway, but when we have had to no one really notices anyway. Other than the exceptionally weird, awkward and hilarious experience I had at Bonefish while we were away. I'm sure that waiter is still telling the tale.

"winking is creepy" definitely quote of the week, Jo.
I like support too but I always had a bit of anxiety thinking someone would be confrontational. No one ever was. Same with touchng my baby's face. My DH would get nervous that I was going to karate chop someone if they gott too close to the baby's face. Back your dirty hands up off her yo'!!! Haha.
Glad I wasn't the only one confused (<-- get it!? I winked at you!)

I had a lady come up and tell me I was beautiful. It meant a heck of a lot to me. I was all stressed. AB kept crying and freaking out every time I took her out and tried to like go for coffee with a friend. People kept giving me the stink eye for having a crying baby in *their sacred restaurant* and so it was really really nice. Made me feel less like a nuisance and more human and welcome. ya know?

That would MAJORLY creep me out. Remember my "mommy stalker" waitress I had a couple months ago??? Yeah, this might be her that we are talking about!! WEIRD.
Sure...smiling would be nice, but winking? That is just too strange.

That's sweet. When I was pumping at work, one day I had a woman (who I knew, but don't work closely with, her office was near my pumping office) come up to me and tell me how I was doing the greatest thing for my little girl. I was starting to get into a slump and that made me feel SO good.

Someone winking at me would make me all what the heck? But I love it when people smile at me. Even little thumbs up or something... I know they're usually breastfeeding mothers. I always smile happily at women i see breastfeeding.. I don't want to intrude, but I know people love positive support, esp in public when they're often nervous that someone will get upset at them.
