Just curious...is your baby showing signs of favoring one side over the other? Vaughn still works with both hands...like its just what ever hand is handy at the time or most convenient in any given situation. Should a dominant hand be established by now? Not worried about it, just wondering In the end, I'm sure Vaughn will be a righty.

Colton still uses both equally I think. Whichever is upfront at the moment like you said.

Kate is clearly right dominant, and has been from the time she started feeding herself (around 7 months). She uses her left if something's on that side, but all things being equal she uses her right.

G is still happily using both hands. Our pediatrician brought it up at our appointment last week and I want to say she said that they look for dominance to be determined by 3 years old. I'll my OH confirm that as he was all into that subject for some reason. I just know she said to try not to push one over the other at this point.

Mark uses both, fingers & utensils, so I'm not sure yet. Lately he's grabbing first with his right, so maybe he's leaning towards that.

Interesting...I guess just like everything else, this is one of those things that just works out in its own time for each kiddo =)

I never really thought about it much before, but I think Eliza is more right-dominant. She eats with her right hand, and the left stays perfectly clean. She colors with both, though. Kind of a bummer--my sister and I are both lefty's and for some reason I was hoping the kiddo would be, too.

We're thinking she's definitely right-footed. Today we stopped at DH's office and she was kicking around a ball they had, only with her right foot, and doing really well with it.

I'm not sure. She has been big into drawing and coloring lately. I was really impressed that she holds a crayon/pencil the correct way, not just in a fist. She seems to use both, but always tries to start with the left first.
DH writies with his right, but does everything else with this left (like sports). He in convinced his mom taught him to use his right hand. She swears she didn't... but that is TOTALLY something she would do because its the "right" way. Oy!

I am right handed but have to really think about which hand to put my fork in etc. For a long time I would alternate so I have a feeling I may have been retrained too.

Me too! I just started paying attention maybe within the last week what Vaughn does with what hand. But now that Erin has mentioned it...Vaughn for sure is right footed...he def kicks and puts his pants on right foot first. Josh and I are both right handed, so by that alone, I figured V would be too...but I thought it would be kinda cool for V to be a lefty...for a while there he did use his left first & for everything. And especially noticed since, like Kate, V has seriously gotten into coloring and I noticed he does go at it with his right but sometimes hes got both hands going...its funny to watch...or if we are positioned in a way next to each other coloring together, he won't reconfigure himself to use his right but just color with his left. But now that I think about it...his "good" coloring is with his right...like when he's trying to copy my movements while coloring...so cute, you can see him focus on moving the crayon in intentional strokes =)
But yea, he still eats and holds/plays with toys in what looks like whatever hand is best at the moment. I'll have to keep an eye out and see if he is actually more dominant on one side.

I'm pretty sure she'll be right handed. She colors with her right hand a good portion of the time...maybe uses her left 5% of the time and the usually switches to her right. However she eats with her left and plays with both, so who knows.
