So because of what someone was talking about (Danielle, was it you??) I decided to try it out. I had some lentils I'd never used so I poured them in a big bowl and set up smaller bowls with a measuring cup. She had a BLAST scooping them and moving them from bowl to bowl. And then using her hands, but then picking every single lentil off her hand before taking the next handful LOL.
She only attempted to eat them twice, then gave me a little stinker grin when I told her no. Not an activity I can just leave her with! Which sucks because she was NOT done playing when I was bored and done with sitting there on the kitchen floor.
But we did get lentils all over the floor.

When Xander was about 6mo old I put some rice in a small empty Gatorade bottle. He STILL will pick it up out of his toybox (i really need to go through that thing) and will shake it around like it's the best thing ever!
I have some dried beans I got a loooong time ago and never used, I'll have to try that now that i have measuring cups!

Claire likes to do that with pretzels in bowls. She dumps them out and carefully puts them back into the bowls. We haven't tried with beans because she will eat them.

Yup, Eliza's a huge fan of sensory activities. We did that with bird seed a couple days ago. It does require constant supervision and it did make a giant mess, but for how fascinated she was I'd say it's worth it. But yeah, the game only lasts about 5 minutes before I get bored, lol.

I need to try with Ellie. We have done stringing pasta noodles and that is a hit. I gave her the rigatoni ones with the big hole so they're easy to string. I got some mini craft puff balls (KWIM?) from Target and gave her an empty container with a hole cut in the lid. She loves putting them in the cup and shaking them out. We've been doing lots of weird sensory things like this lately bc of her leg.

Colored pom poms are next on my list. We also have old yogurt tubs with holes cut in the lids and she puts pasta and q-tips in those. She loves that one!

I did this for Addyson.
I put some rice is a bottle and superglued the lid shut. Sometimes she still plays with it.
I can't wait to do the beans/macaroni in a sandbox but she is still putting a lot of stuff in her mouth.

Sad that I did all of these things with my nieces, but now you guys are making me feel like a bad mom!
Stringing the pasta is a brilliant idea. I've been looking at stringing blocks and beads but this is much simpler! He was doing it at his 18 month appt and she kept telling us that it was an important thing to get him for home. We shall try this tomorrow.
I also am ashamed to admit that I have no containers with holes cut in the lids.
As for the lentil games...I know this would be a game of throwing handfuls as far as he could...and he has a killer arm. We practiced this at the beach with sand throwing...does that count?
What would I do without you guys to keep me on track here?
