I'm really strapped for cash right now, but I still want to give my mom and my BF's mom something for Christmas. I have these big plastic jars, paint, and a little better than average artistic skill. The BF's mom likes angels, and my mom likes roosters. So what I was thinking, making decorative jars catering to the likes, and filling the jars with their favorite candies, or color coordinating rocks or something. It doesn't cost much, I've made it, it's personal and very sincere, which is what Christmas is all about right? (the personal and sincere part, not the cost part!)

I know my mom will like hers, she doesn't want me to spend anything on her AT ALL because she knows times are a little tough (not as tough as others, Sending good vibes and prayers to you!) but I haven't known BF's mom for very long and I'm really going on what he tells me, and I want to keep making good impressions.

So, what do you think?

EDIT:
Like, if you got this as a gift, would you LIKE to put it out, even in an inconspicuous place? Be completely honest. Or would it be one of those "aww thanks!" and hide it in the closet? I'm just worried about how they're going to turn out and how they will be received.. :/

Really?? Cool!!

I guess I'm just second guessing myself. It's more of the BF's mom than my mom. I love this guy, and we both go over to his mom's every weekday for lunch (we work together) and she's just so sweet and so kind. I want to give her something to let her know I do appreciate everything. She hasn't met Xander yet and she bought him a Christmas present!! She's been so accepting and so amazing and yea.. I want to do something nice for her.

My mom said NO CHRISTMAS GIFTS from me, but I'm doing something for her anyway!!

I think it sounds great! Handmade things are always great IMO because someone spent time on it and it's more meaningful than going out and buying a giftcard or something.

That sounds really nice =) I'm sure both moms will very much appreciate the thought. And maybe for BFs mom you can find out if she has any kind of favorite treat or something and put it in the jar?

I think it sounds like a very sweet idea. I always feel horrible when someone gives me a gift that I know they couldn't afford. What about filling them with something handmade as well? Cookies or xmas baking stuff.

I like the idea of putting cookies or candies in them!
As far as would I like them or not - honestly - really honestly - it depends on whether you do a good job. It it was ugly - I'd appreciate the candy and hide the jar. If it was pretty - then I'd put it out. And definitely go with the treats rather than the rocks. That way if it isn't your BF's moms favorite paint job - she can still enjoy the treat.

Good idea on the candies. the BF's moms fave are York Peppermint Patties. the colors of those go along with the colors on her jar, so I think i'll do that!

Here is the angel jar.

Ill be working on the rooster jar today and ill upload a pic after its done!
