Anyone else's toddler just started really fighting diaper changes? Kate used to be fine, though wiggly. But now when she even hears the word diaper she says, "No. No." and when I pick her up and walk down the hall to her room she starts crying and saying "Nooooo!" When I take off her pants she just lays there crying. (But then is fine when it's off and I put the new one on.)
Just wondering if this is a phase or what. And how can I help her feel less mad about it. I think it might be connected to her newfound attempts to assert her own independence.... but the diaper needs to get changed!

It totally depends on her mood... some mornings especially if she doesn't want to be up yet she curls into a ball on her changing table, making it hard to change her. Sometimes she lays out and makes it easy.
All weekend she was telling us when she peed and pooped so we were sitting her on the toilet for a minute (usually missed the actual "event") then going to put a new diaper on. She was being extra squirmy and wouldn't lay down for the diaper at one point so I pulled out some panties since I wanted to see how they fit her. I put them on her and she was so confused. She kept pointing to her diaper and picking it up, then laid down for me and pointed where it should go.
usually she is pretty hard to pin down though.

Oohhhh I wish Kate would tell me. I keep trying to teach her the concept of pee pee but she just shakes her head when she sits on the toilet. Nice.
lol at the curling in a ball. I learned the hard way NOT to change Kate immediately after pulling her out of the crib. Apparently my child is just like mama and needs time to acclimate to being awake first before doing... err, anything. I've had to put her straight on the changing pad when she's soaked through and OMG the screaming and hysterics is ridiculous.

Ditto to Erin, and also with the not-doing-ANYTHING-as-soon-as-she-wakes thing. Sometimes she's totally cool and will lay there and babble at me, sometimes she's a little wiggly but will cooperate if I have something to occupy her, and sometimes she screams bloody murder and rolls away. I dunno.

Violet wiggles but doesn't ever cry... When I dry her hair after a shower she sais "Nooo! Owwie" every time though. No matter how gently I am!

GG hates being made to do anything in the morning. He's happy as long as we just lay around in bed and chat and play for a while. He loses it if I try to put him on his feet though!
He's really good for me about diapers etc. I make sure that I talk to him about every step of what we're doing. His dad does not do this and they meet with a lot more tears than I do. I now let him go and get a diaper for me too. I've found with him that as long as he's involved and has some control in any way he's good. Being forced to do things, or not knowing exactly what's going on...not good. Sometimes I have to remind myself to be extra patient before we start things. When he does try to cry or something ((always fake) I just laugh and he busts out laughing as soon as I do. He is a lunatic though.

Mason is just too busy for diaper changes. The kid's got things to do and people to see. I usually whip out the iphone and let him hold that while I change him. That always does the trick!

This morning I changed her on the living room floor instead of taking her to her bedroom and she was perfectly calm. apparently she just doesn't like being taken away from her TV/toys/books when she's busy.

She was like that a couple months ago and then she was good for a long time but now she's a slippery twisting fish doing all she can to get away.

Another thing I figured out: using a warm cloth to wipe her bum INSTANTLY calms her down. She HATES cold wet wipes. I now just use a wet cloth except for poops.

Colton has gotten a little better except for sticking his hands down there! Grrrr I try to give him a new 'toy' every few days which consist of a compact mirror, bottle of lotion, toe nail clippers etc.

Addyson does that! We say "Addyson! Stop pulling your puffs!" She just giggles.

Eliza likes to explore, too, which I'm fine with so long as there's no poop. Except when she digs around while I'm putting aquaphor on, then eats it. Gross. Something that's worked really well: she got the fisher price little people fairy treehouse and it came with this tiny, very chokeable plastic wand. I don't let her play with it on her own, but when I'm changing her I give her the "magic diaper wand" and she waves it around saying "Magic! Magic!" She gets mighty pissed when we're done and I take it away again, but keeping it off-limits except for diaper time has kept her interest for a few days now.

I only use washcloths from a wipes warmer with GG too...or else wet them under the tap. I had to use wet wipes at the airport with him and he was so not impressed!
We use choking hazard toys on the change table too...works well. Now I want a wand though.
