Juliet is getting a rash on her back, around where the top of her diaper/pants waistband hits. We're thinking it's from rubbing and the weather probably. I tried to get a pic but it didn't really turn out well. DH has been putting aquaphor on it before bed and it seems to be getting a little better. Any other suggestions? Any others with this problem?

oh and same diapers brand we've been using her whole life, so we haven't switched it up to something new that could be irritating her

It sounds like it could be a contact dermatitis to me. I know a lot of people, especially kids, get it from laundry detergent residue. Our pediatricians suggestion is to always run an extra rinse on kids stuff. In the mean time I'd rinse her off well, keep it moisturized and try to keep her in clothes that won't rub on it as much as possible...I know the diaper situation makes this more challenging. I also still swear by coconut oil. It's cheap magic.
I hope it clears up quickly.

We have the same issue too. I think she just gets hot... I have a couple of layers on her, then in the car have the heat on, and the waistband/back area probably sweats and overheats the most. I think Aquaphor is probably the best thing for it. Does it bother her?

If it's just on her waist...maybe the diaper is too tight and rubbing?? Does she need to be bumped up a size? If it was a detergent issue, I would think it would be covering more of her body. Rashes are so mysterious!

Thanks for the ideas. I don't think it's detergent, we've been using the same kind for months and the clothes don't actually touch the skin there, but the waistband of her pants is over the diaper, so it is probably causing extra rubbing there.

The aquaphor seems to be working, I slathered some more on this morning. It doesn't really seem to bother her at all, except the first time DH put lotion on it we think it gave her that stinging/hurting feeling. Instead of a bath every night we're going to try to go back to every other and get better about keeping her lotioned since her skin dries out in the winter. We should also get better about turning on her humidifier at night.

Jamie's skin is super dry (and I call her my little alligator sometimes hehe) and both of my kids have had eczema. Gavin has outgrown it, thankfully. I never have gotten to feel truly baby soft skin with Jamie, though. Winter has really made her skin worse. We live in a 90-year-old house and the air is very dry. I'm surprised I haven't had a nosebleed yet this year, but I suppose its not as bad as the house we lived in last winter.

I would suggest a bath every other day instead of every day like you said. I know that Jamie's skin is always pretty red after any bath. If it doesn't get better with Aquaphor, try Cetaphil or the wal-mart equivalent brand. Get the tub of cream, not the lotion. The lotion is pretty good, but the cream is better. It has been so good for Gavin's and Jamie's skin. We also only use All free and clear on Jamie's clothes and most of the time on all of our clothes, and only fabric softener on my husband's clothes and only the sensitive stuff. I have asthma and allergies year round, so I found that I can't go back to nice smelling detergents and fabric softener either
