We used to have a rule that if we saw them in Christmas, they got a gift.
This year, we are doing Violet only. We drew names so I got my Dad and DH got my sister. That's it. Very simple this year! Not ideal but it's as close as we can get to calling it off. Hopefully next year we will have more $$ to do it like we used to.

My dad and his wife and DH's parents, although I'm going to try and put a stop to this. We also buy for my half siblings who are young (1st-5th grade) and I have a new baby niece we got to buy for this year.

my mom, my sisters, DH's parents, DH's sisters, neighbor's little boy
we used to do small gifts for some of our friends, but last year I decided to just do baked goods instead. It was too much to think of and buy stuff for more people. Apparently one couple "wished I had told them" since they got us small gifts. Oh well. I baked some stuff again this year too.
Oh and I also baked cookies for daycare and gave her a gift card.

I get gifts for my family (parents and brother), we get gifts for DH's dad's family (dad, step-mom, four brothers), we draw names with his mom's family so only two gifts, and then we buy stuff for the nieces and nephews. I also get a gift for my BFF and her boys.

Family and extended family only.
We buy for Rylee and Ashton, my mum, dad, 2 sisters plus their OH's, my niece's, my nephew. Plus something small for my inlaws and aunt.
DH and I never used to buy for one another, but now we let Rylee pick something out to give to each of us.

We are at a tricky point where our niece is now in her 20s and engaged and we think it's time to stop the gifts. We've got 7 nieces and nephews (I forgot one above! Oops.) and one niece has two kids. The one with kids is actually not our "blood niece" but it's DH's sister's husband's daughter from a previous relationship (did you guys catch all that!? ). She rarely celebrates Christmas with the whole fam, so we haven't given her gifts in years. My aunts and uncles quit giving us gifts when were probably 5 or so and DH said his aunts and uncles never did give them gifts as kids. If we don't stop now, when will it stop??? I hate it because we sounds so crotchety, but it's expensive. I think 18 is an appropriate cut off age, but I have this feeling like DH's SIL won't feel the same about this. They are rolling in the dough and she wants EVERYONE to exchange gifts in DH's family! That's just crazy talk! I swear, I have anxiety attacks over how to stop this in the most loving way without DH's SIL getting pissed off and offended. Ugh.
