Well Kate has started pushing a chair over to her highchair and using it to CLIMB IN over top of the tray. Yeah, like that's safe. So I think we're going to be switching her to a booster seat at the table soon. Any recommendations? I have a Fisher Price portable booster (forget what it's called), and that worked great for us for restaurants and stuff. I'd kind of like to keep that one in the car. I don't know if I should look for something different for at home? My only real requirement is that it have straps, because she's a wiggle worm while eating.

What is everyone else using? If you have older kids, when did you switch to a booster seat from the highchair?

For space reasons, Vaughn has always been in a booster at the table. I believe its a Safety First...straps onto the chair and then has a "seatbelt" for him. Adjusts 3 levels for growth and comes with a tray...we used that early on, but now he just sits right at table height. Wasn't very expensive - $15-$20 max and has lasted us since he was about 6 months.

We've used that one since she started solids (well, before, she'd sit in it and watch us eat one she could sit reasonably well) and we used it for our neighbor's kid occasionally before that. It has held up great. She can almost get in herself now, but I prefer to put her in there. Most of the time we use the tray for food, but sometimes she just sits at the table. She also sits in it at the table when she colors.

We have the exact same one as Erin. I got it because it's the one we use at work so I know it's good for 6m-3ish years. We love it!

I have a different version of that..... the simpler one, with no height adjustment and just the one tray. It does work great. I guess I'll just keep it. although the height adjustment would be really great....

I don't have a table at home, so Xander has been eating with me at the coffee table in the living room. Since he's gotten a little toddler table for xmas he's been eating at that! It's so cute.

At restaurants we'll use a booster seat, or if its a low maintenance place and we get a booth, he just sits or stands next to me. Helps keep him occupied. And as of yet he hasnt tried to throw things at the other customers or crawl under the table. If he does we'll start strappin him down!

Nicholas has been climbing into his high chair for quite a while. I don't mind. I just spot him. He only climbs in when it's time to eat (or if he's hungry and he's trying to tell me something).

I will keep using the high chair, as I did with the others. Luke started climbing into his high chair at like 9 months. He was a total monkey boy.

I would be fine with that, but my DH threw a FIT when he caught Kate doing it today. I think he wanted to take the highchair out of the room right that second. He overreacts slightly. (She's never fallen!)

LOL, I sometimes put an ottoman in front as a step stool so Eliza can get in and out herself. She's fallen a couple of times, but we have carpet and it's like, 2 1/2 feet.

I have an old Graco high chair at home from my sister and also a Minui Handysit. At my mom's we have the same boost as Erin and Danielle. The one problem we have is that in the booster style seats he will push his feet off the table and could tip himself right over backwards if we aren't really watching him. Just my $.02

I hauled out a booster seat a few days ago actually. Mason was just throwing a fit when I tried to take him off the chair and put him in the high chair, so I figured I'd try it. He seemed to like it, but I still prefer to keep him in his high chair if he'll let me stick him in there.

I have a couple of the FP boosters and they are OK, but I LOVE my Mutsy!!! I ended up getting that for Avery because she was a total shorty and could hardly reach the table with the FP boosters. This was the highest booster I could find and it has great straps and SOOOO easy to clean. It's spendy for a booster, but I think this one is totally worth it.

Juliet will do that too... use her arms to push away from the table if we don't have the tray on. Luckily the chair has never tipped. I guess I should watch out for that

It think it's reflecting with some serious lighting on it! The colored part is all made of some kind of foam with an almost vinyl like coating on it. That's what makes it SO easy to clean and comfy too.
