About a week ago Violet burned herself on the curling iron. On the inside if her wrist, on the crease. It was blistered and sad. I was especially mad because I NEVER curl or even blow dry my hair. I plugged it in and bam. Burn.

On New Year's Eve Violet was jumping on the couch and fell off (she likes to count to three and then jump lately, I have always hated it) and hurt herself bad. Worse than ever she cried hard and I could tell was a problem. I wanted to take her to the ER but waited until things were settled and because I didn't want to take her to a place filled with sickness, wait for hours (on New Years Eve, remember) and end up with nothing wrong but the flu instead So I opted for the neighbors house. They are both nurses and have been for 20+ years.

He looked at it, checked her elbow, wrist, etc. and thought that the problem was the burn. She had most likely fallen and hurt the burn.

Over the next couple days she was babying her arm, I could tell and not using it for rough things but she was pushing cars with it, doing "arms up" for helping me get her dressed, etc... I still had a close eye in it though. I was thinking that the burn was the problem and Sam was too although he felt like she was sensitive to the back of her wrist being touched, which wouldn't be the burn.

Wednesday morning she was coming out of the play room and bear crawling up the three stairs that go into the room with both legs and one arm, the other cradled to her chest. I called and asked for an X-Ray and they got me in.

She did some feeling and agreed to do the x-ray and what do you know. A broken arm! In two ******* places!

I started crying immediately. I can't believe it was broken for THREE DAYS and I didn't know. She has been needing me like crazy, I thought it was because of the move and I worked a little extra this week. She has been hurting and I thought it was a burn, which you can do little about.

Anyway, I feel like crap about it. I cried a lot. I hate that I waited instead of just doing it. Horrible horrible horrible.

In reality she seems to be okay, we have had the cast for five days now and the "real" one goes on on Tuesday... except now there is something strapped to her arm and cramping her style.

GO TO THE DR. EVEN IF YOU THINK IT'S SILLY. Although, saying that.... if I would have taken her to the Dr. and nothing would have been wrong I would have been pissed that I exposed her to the yuckies for no reason.

OMG. Poor baby!!! And poor mama!! I'm so sorry. I probably would have done the same thing with just watching it. I'm sure she'll heal up quick and won't even remember all of this. But oh, poor baby.

Poor baby! I took C in just before Christmas because he was limping and dragging his leg when he ran. I took him in the next morning and I think the Dr thought I was nuts but I wouldn't leave without x-rays. His leg was fine. We think he pulled something throwing a fit in the car, he kicks the back seat and then pushes his car seat back.

Aww poor thing. Hope she heals up really fast and try not to feel bad about it. No experience with broken anything with me or my kids but I probably would have done the wait and see approach as well especially on new years eve.

Aww...poor girls!
I hope she heals up so quickly.
Oddly enough my mom was just telling the story about making my sister deliver her newspapers for weeks before taking her in for her limping...her leg was broken!
Don't beat yourself up...it happens.

Breaks in kids this age are very minor, and if she had have been in a lot of pain she definitely would have let you know!

If it makes you feel better, my mum also left me for 3 days before getting x-rays when I fractured my wrist - only I was probably about 12-13 and old enough to tell her it was really sore... she thought I was just trying to get out of doing dishes.

Poor baby and poor you!! I know you feel so bad. I most likely would have done the same thing so don't beat yourself up for it! She's happy and smiling in the picture and I know you're doing all you can for her. <3

Speedy recovery for the little daredevil!

You totally should not feel badly! It's so hard to tell what's bothering little kids when they can't tell you! I'm a wait and see person too, so I get that. If you immediately went running to the doc or ER every time your kid hurt themselves, you may as well have your own personal exam room just sitting there waiting for you!

Give Violet big "get well" hugs from us!

Awwww! Poor little sweety and poor you too! (((hugs))) Don't feel bad - yo udidn't harm her by watching it. New years eve emerge could have = some nasty sickies to go along with the arm.
A little trick for a broken toddler arm - get them to squeeze your hand. Usually if it's broken they can't do it. My mom learned this when she took my 1.5 year old brother in (a few days later too ) for his broken arm!

Poor Violet and poor Mommy & Daddy! I'm so sorry that happened.

I didn't post about it here, only on facebook group at the time it happened, but day after Thanksgiving Ellie was playing on my mom's bed at her house with DH and a few of our siblings and she fractured her knee. She was messing around play kicking DH and he thinks he must have moved toward her just as she was kicking at him and there must have been just enough force. It was a total freak thing. Anyway, she cried pretty hard, but she always cries a bunch for any little fall or bump and she stopped after five minutes and was fine. She fussed a bit when she put weight on the leg, but not at all besides that. We even went out to dinner just like we planned because we assumed she just tweaked a muscle or something. We took her home from dinner and put her down for bed and she was a bit fussy in the middle of the night which wasn't like her. But we really still thought she prob just pulled a muscle and she also had two big molars coming in so we didn't think too much of the night waking. The next morning she still wouldn't put weight on her leg and when she did she would cry a little, so we took her to quick care just in case for our peace of mind, still fully thinking she would have just pulled a muscle. Well to our surprise they did an x-ray and she had a fracture in her knee. They did a splint and the next day we took her to a pediatric ortho specialist to get checked and get a cast. She had to wear it for three weeks. Of course I was SO upset and we felt like a**holes for not taking her right away, but we really assumed if it was broken she'd be acting really hurt and she wasn't. Poor DH was even worse than me since he was the one playing iwth her when it happened. Anyway, she had to wear her cast for three weeks and after a couple of days it was like it was always there and she just did her thing. I think it bothered us way more than it bothered her. So, sorry for that novel, but thought it might make you feel better to know that something similar happened to us. I know it's hard but please try not to beat yourself up; accidents happen even to the best parents!

She's great! She neve got a full cast, it's a Velcro brace lined with metal to support her arm. We are allowed totaled it off for bath. After I went to the second Dr. I learned that it was a fracture, half way through one bone in her arm. Not the "broke both bones" I was told originally. I was pretty relieved! She is living life like absolutely nothing is wrong

I did get questioned for child abuse when I took her in. What's this bruise? What's that scrape? Why did you give her a curling iron? !! I thought I would get more of that wih the broken arm but people understand that children can be wild. Youd be surprised how many other mommies made their kids wait a few days.

Thanks for all your support!!!

Im glad she is doing better. Try not to beat yourself up over it either, I think a majority of us here would have done the same thing. Its tough when they cant tell us whats wrong, and that seem to get over things very quickly.
