I watched my neighbours little boy for the day last week, and for a couple of hours today. He is almost 2, and he and Zoe get on really well (but they're moving to Texas this weekend - wahhh!!!).
So both times I've taken them for a walk around the neighbourhood and they are SO different. He just powers ahead and *walks*. Zoe dawdles, looks at leaves, puts flowers and rocks in her pocket, pokes at puddles, kicks dirt, sits on tree roots... I spent the whole time saying "G wait for Zoe, Zoe come on - keep walking!" Then they would hold hands for a while, and G would be pulling Zoe along who was trying to stop and look at something else They were so funny!
What about your LO? Are they walkers or explorers?

Colton will take off and then look down and see something and squat down to look at it, pick it up etc. and then take off again! lol He also walks like a chimp so it's pretty funny to watch him get going lol

I am not really sure, I don't take her for walks outside (too dangerous, cars). I would say in general she will go for something specific, then stop to explore. Then she runs off again.

Claire runs and when she gets far enough away from me she stops to explore. It's exhausting.

E is usually more of an explorer with frequent stops but she does her fair share of running too. She loves to pick up rocks right now.

I think Vaughn is a little of both. He doesn't walk, he runs! He has two speeds, jog and sprint BUT somehow he manages not to miss exploration. He stops to literally smell flowers, look at bugs, climb things, check out the birds above...as fast he moves, his eyes must go faster cause he'll tell me to look at something that even I don't catch and I'm a mosy-along type walker.

Morgan is very much an explorer...even in the house. I think we may have a day dreamer on our hands.

Oh, Eliza dawdles. She has to touch EVERYTHING. If I ever actually need to get somewhere she absolutely has to be in the stroller because she doesn't go more than a foot without picking something up and stopping to inspect it. She'll run ahead and backtrack to cover any ground she missed, too.

Walking?? Yeah, there is no walking with Mason anymore! Get outta his way because he's got places to go and people to see!

G is pretty funny about this. He has an extremely determined walk when we're going somewhere. Today at the hotel he was so focused on his walk that he ignored a little girl the same age when we passed her in the hall. She looked so sad about it that I stopped him to say hi. Then once he is stopped to say hi I can hardly drag him away from new people. He walks with his belly really far out ahead of him and it makes me laugh every time. Hi is more of an analyzer than just a looker and feeler though so when we do stop...we're not going anywhere for a long time.

Xander kinda moseys along. He's always looking at something, and not at his feet, so he's a tripper/faller. He will run if he WANTS to go somewhere, like to the street after i get him out of the car when we get home... *shakes head* But if he sees something interesting he will stop and mess with for a few seconds, throw it then move on.
But he's like me, I've got what the BF calls "Look-About Syndrome". I'm always looking about, and sometimes it makes me run into things..
