What are the rules in your house about this?
Is your LO into shows and movies?
How much time do they spend with a screen on each day?

Kate only watches Sesame Street, Super Why, and Backyardigans. We don't turn on anything else for her.
Her favorite is clearly the Elmo's World section of Sesame Street. She begs for it over and over and over again.
She spends too long watching... whenever I need her to just sit still for a while (like when we wake up, when I'm cooking dinner, middle of the night when snow plows wake her up.....) She's always asking for Elmo. Drives me nuts.

Violet was strictly not allowed to watch tv (ever) until she broke her arm (two weeks ago) and was introduced to her very first cartoon EVER! It was The Lion King. I sought it out after I saw Danielle's post with Eliza doing a mad elephant impression. We watched it a few times and now she walks up to the tv and says "Rah! (lion roar) and then says "uh oh" and points to the tv because it's off. She loved the part when the animals stampede. I have a feeling this is game on
I never, ever watch tv except the news and DH is a super duper mega tv lover so screen time will end up depending on who is in charge.

Around here, it kind of depends on how the day is going and how I'm feeling. On days where I am a mess and can't move, I fully utilize that TV! And the kids are all zombies in the morning, so they watch some TV then and usually an hour or so at night too. As long as they watch educational shows (Nick Jr) I am really OK with it. I am still amazed with how much my kids learn from those shows.

Our TV is almost always on, on the weekends we usually keep it on Disney or DH watches fishing and hunting shows on the outdoor channels. Or Animal Planet, I forgot about that. Juliet almost never pays any attention at all, unless there are dogs on Animal Planet. She will sit for a few minutes to watch Dogs 101 or Cats 101 (where they do overviews of different breeds). If she's sleepy in the mornings sometimes she'll snuggle with us while the tv is on and seem to be watching, but I don't know. She's never asked to watch anything and has no idea who any tv characters are.

Colleen watches PBS Kids in the mornings. How much she watches depends on how tired I am that morning. She really likes Sesame Street, Curious George, and Super Why. Our TV is always on, but she doesn't always pay attention to it. She doesn't even watch all of the above shows when they are on, but alternates between watching and running around the living room playing.
At my mom's they put on Disney movies for her, but again, her attention span is limited.
(Oh, and she also likes to watch when DH is playing the latest Zelda game on the Wii. We talk about what's going on onscreen. )

Our TV is on all the time too. Claire only pays attention to Bubble Guppies and Little Einsteins and sometimes Spongebob. As far as movies go she loves Tangled but only the parts where they sing.
Lately she has been getting very excited over a show called Pass Time. It's a drag racing game show. She seriously screams and runs around when it is on. I have no idea why other than her dad watches it and I think it reminds her of daddy. She will probably have a race car by the time she is 16.

Colton is totally obsessed with Bubble Guppies. It has become somewhat of a security blanket, as weird as that sounds, lol. But when he's tired or cranky or not feeling good he will ask for it incessantly, then just lay on the couch with his blankie.
My kids LOVE music videos... so I play a lot of music vids on demand. They will dance and dance for hours.
DD is a total TV head and would watch it 24/7 if I let her, so I try to keep tabs on that...

Vaughn doesn't watch TV, for no other reason than it seems to not interest him. For the most part the TV doesn't get turned on until we relax in the evening, and he doesn't even glance at it, he just keeps on playing with his stuff.
Its fine with me, but there are times I could do things a lot faster if I could plop him down for 15-20 minutes with a morning show or something.

The TV is on lots during the weekend and evening when we are home but she honestly doesn't seem to watch it all. Maybe because it's usually the older kids picking out shows (we only have 1 TV).

Our TV is on a lot more than I'd like it to be. G doesn't seem to care unless a song comes on and then he has to stop what he's doing and dance. He will occasionally ask for a "show" but then he just keeps playing. He has never sat down and watched something. I have sporadic envy when I see pics of all of your kids laying own and chilling for a show or movie. He does love In the Night Garden and will talk about the characters on that. He talks about Elmo too but that's more from the toys I think.

Eliza would literally watch TV all day if I let her. She watches way more than I ever thought I'd let my kid watch. I am incredibly picky about what we watch, though. She gets PBS in the morning, sometimes a movie. I turn it off after her snack and we play until naptime, then she watches a bit while she eats lunch. Then it's off and we play more until dinner, unless it's a really bad day or I have a ton of stuff to do. She doesn't just sit, she has a ton of toys in the living room and she plays the whole time, but she does zone out here and there.
We don't have cable, I don't let her watch any advertising geared toward children (that REALLY makes my blood boil) and she almost never sees any grown-up stuff unless it's the news or some daytime talk show. She never pays any attention to that, anyway. Favorite movies are Finding Nemo, The Lion King, Lilo and Stitch, Fern Gully, Ratatouille, and a whole lot of Elmo these days. I also Netflix kid's movies--this week was Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Snow White and Charlotte's Web. I'm not too keen on the princess movies, though. She's not either, though I'm sure that will change soon.
Anyone else realize how dumb Snow White is? She's the worst! So helpless! That's another topic, though...

We were doing NetFlix while we were away. I put on Babe for GG and imagine how I felt when during the first scene he said "awww...boo...night night" . Boo is his term for nursing...and there were a pile of piglets going at it. I felt so sexy at that moment.

LMAO! That's cute though!!
I hear you about the princess movies and advertising. We don't watch any live TV except sometimes Price is Right (and then the commercials are all about life insurance and scooters, so I don't care about that). Do you get those movies as actual mail-in DVDs? Or are they available on instant watch??

We do the actual DVDs, because I don't have a laptop and I cannot stand watching things on my desktop, especially with the kid trying to climb on top of the desk. Ugh.

Bummer, we don't have a DVD subscription anymore. We have the xbox hooked up to the TV so we get all the streaming stuff on the TV. It's really useful!
