Anyone using regular cups (vs sippy cups) with their LO yet?
I want to start giving Juliet a regular cup during meals (she will drink out of ours pretty well and always lifts her bowl up to drink her milk from her cereal or juice from a fruit cup) but DH thinks she's growing up too fast.

Not us. Colleen will spill if I give her a regular cup. She will drink from one if we hold it, but she can't be trusted with one to herself just yet. Of course, she's behind on eating with utensils, too...

Elijah uses cups all the time we still give him a sippy cup at night but during the day he drinks out of a cup. He still spills sometimes so it's usually only water that he gets in a cup and any kind of juice or milk gets supervised or put in a cup with a lid so that it can't be spilled as easily.

You can't stop them growing up
Zoe uses a regular cup during meals, and loves her little pink cups. Yes she makes a mess, but we only put a couple of inches of liquid in, and that way if it all goes everywhere it's not a HUGE mess. I kinda figure making a mess, and learning for themselves is how they learn. Zoe has figured out that for the first sip she has to go slow to see how full it is otherwise she about drowns in it. She had to figure that out the hard way

She's only ever used a regular cup since she was a baby and we introduced food at 6 months so she is very good with them by now. It freaked out daycare the first week she was there when I went back to work that she was so good with it.

Juliet had a regular cup for her water at dinner tonight. I only filled it about 1/3 full. She absolutely loved it. And was really good at drinking from it. I knew she would be, but still, she always surprises me with her skills

I give Kate a regular cup sometimes. She knows how to use them, she uses the cup in the bathroom to snag water from the tap and drink it. Her problem is that she gulps too much then lets it all run out of her mouth. And then after a few sips INTENTIONALLY dumps the cup upside down. Grrrr.

G uses a cup pretty much all the time when I give him a drink and pretty much never if his dad gives him one. I give him a sippy cup of water during the day though so that I don't have to worry about where it gets to. I put almond or coconut milk in a sippy cup if I'm going to be out while he's sleeping too for a just in case.

Mason only uses sippy cups. My kids carry drinks all over the house, all the time, so I think I'd go nuts if I had drinks spilling everywhere!
And just a random thing I learned a few years ago when Jackson was in feeding therapy (encouraging eating/drinking new things for the beyond picky kids!!)... they always filled the cups up all the way. The therapists said that it's much easier for kids to learn to drink from a cup with it full vs if there is just a little in there, they have to tip and tip and tip to get to the drink and then you get a mess! It made so much sense to me after that! And sure enough, Jack caught on WAAAAY faster with their full cup method.

C has sippy or straw cups most of the time. When we go out to eat and they have lid cups with a straw he uses those by himself as well. As for a real cup... Not there yet. Thanks to my mom who taught him those are for dumping water on his head... You know where that is going in real cup sense. I got him a couple real cups to carry around and play with and he's starting to pretend to drink out of them. I also found an Avent 360 cup at Walmart. He's been using those daily with just water in them. Yeah we do have water spills even with those, but not like a full cup of water on his head the moment I give the cup to him. Best advice ever Betsy! Thank you for that. I'm trying to go 100% cups now that you told me the full cup thing. Not a single spill today and he drank more than usual and then slept way longer than usual. I owe you mama!
I've heard good things about those cups too Nicole, but I've never seen one.

HAHAHAHAHA Eliza does.not.get.it.
She sticks her tongue in the cup and tries to lap it up like a cat. It's hilarious. She took forever to figure out sippy cups too, though. She couldn't understand that she had to tip it up so she used straw cups for a looooong time. I still let her try to drink from my cup every day though, because she thinks it's fun and I'm hoping she'll catch on.

Oh good!!!! Yay! I couldn't believe how much it helped Jackson and all of the other kids in that class. To this day, Jack will not drink out of a cup unless it's full!! Lol.

NOOOOOOO cups here!!
Ashton is bad enough with sippey's. He will fill his mouth full and then spit it over himself. On the rare occasion that he does have a real cup he just dumps it so he can play with it.

Juliet used to do that too
Juliet has cups in the bath and uses them to pour water on herself, but she also practices drinking out of cups there too. She's never tried to pour a cup (purposefully) all over herself, outside of the bath.

ditto this exactly! But then she gets all upset and points to the water and says "mess, mess" until I wipe it up. Doesn't stop her from doing it again the next time though.
