Since we are having a snow day today and are basically stuck inside all day I'm looking online for things to do with Kate inside with what we've got. Thought I'd post them here too! I'm just combing through the internet looking for age-appropriate stuff.

* Dig out the kiddie pool. Yes, even if there are 12 feet of snow outside. Bring it into the kitchen, put a sheet underneath it and your toddler inside it and then put some buckets of strange things in there. Some ideas are dried beans, rice, dragon tears, polished rocks, packing peanuts and sand. Be sure to include scoops and empty bowls to mix up concoctions. You can bury little toys inside some of the containers for an added treat. Just be sure to watch toddler nonstop, so the goodies don't end up in her mouth, nose or ears.

* Make some squeeze art. Fill an empty glue or ketchup bottle with a paste of flour (or cornstarch), water and food coloring (if desired). Spread out some newspaper and give your toddler a cookie sheet to squeeze designs onto. When he's done with the designs he can use a plastic fork, finger or homemade pattern comb (a piece of cardboard with waves or spikes cut into one side to leave trails) to make further designs in the goop. When he's done with one creation, rinse it off in the sink and let him do another. Anybody who's ever had a toddler get into a bottle of glue knows how irresistible they find the simple act of squeezing a puddle of ooze.

* Arrange dolls, toy figurines or other "bowling pins" at the end of a cleared hallway to create a bowling alley. Take turns tossing a small, light-weight ball at the pins from the opposite end of the hallway.

* Play doh (supervised)

* Bring snow inside in a bucket and let them play with it.

If I think of or find more I'll add them.

Ohhh...I like the squeeze art idea. We pretty much have to play with the pompom game all day long now since you guys taught me that one. He freakin loves putting those things into the container. Unfortunately he wants me to "halp mama" lots and lots. I wouldn't do it if he wasn't so darn cute.

I got Eliza some pom poms today. I can't wait to try them out tomorrow! We don't have a kiddie pool, but that sounds so awesome. That would become disastrous in my house after about 5 minutes, though. Eliza likes to grab handfuls of stuff like that and throw it like rice at a wedding. Oy.

I had to laugh at the pool one too. That would be disastrous at my house between Mason and Jack!

We have been snow/iced in for 4 days now and when Mason gets bored, I just let him go wild in the pantry. He has a BLAST taking out all of the spices and canned foods and moving them from place to place. I had no idea canned goods could be so exciting! Whatever works!

Yep, Colton does that one too! When I'm trying to cook dinner in the evening and he's wanting to be with me in the kitchen he will take cans and stack them and roll them around the kitchen!
