Hey Ladies... It's been a few weeks. Things have been hectic around the house, so it's been a little crazy.
Addison was scheduled to have her second set of tubes last Wednesday, since one of the tubes had already started to rotate out, and the other was starting to do the same.
The Dr had decided that since she was going to have tubes again, he thought it would be beneficial to go ahead and take her adenoids out as well. That they may help to prevent the ear infections once she outgrows the new tubes.
So we take her in for surgery at 6:30am on Wednesday morning... We get her all dressed in the gown, and they take her back around 7:30am. They said the tubes would take 10 minutes and the adenoids would be another 15 or so minutes.
A hour had passed as we were waiting, and I could feel that something just wasn't right... Not long after that, the Anestheologist came in to let us know that Addison was in recovery, but they were not able to take the adenoids out.
So what happened was that they drifted her to sleep with the mask, and placed the IV (needed for adenoids). They intubated her, and her breathing became very erratic, and they had to extubate her, only to find out the breathing tube was being clogged by fluid from her lungs.
They tried to intubate her twice more, and then decided it would not be safe to proceed with removing the adenoids. Once they got her stable, they moved her to recovery. The Dr. came out to let us know the situation. They were going do a chest x-ray to check for pneumonia and that it was possible that we be transferred to another hospital to be admitted for care.
The Chest X Ray showed the beginning stages of pneumonia in the left side of lungs. They gave her a shot of Rocephine, and steriods along with two breathing treatments in recovery.
After about 2 hours, they brought her back to us in the room, but she was still on oxygen. Talk about scary... We had to stay and be monitored until she could keep her O2 saturation up.
It's was one of the scariest events since she's been born...
We have had a check with the Dr. on Thursday and she's already starting to get back to normal... Just can't believe that out of the multiple dr visits she had leading up to the surgery, and having no symptoms that it wasn't caught prior to.
