Sigh. I'm sorry you have had a hell of a year. I HATE that you are goig through "I don't know what's wrong with my baby" scenarios. I felt like crying when I read that the Dr. Listened to you. If there is anything I have learned it is that you are in charge of your own care (and Colton's). I wanted my DH tested for diabetes because he drinks and urinates a ton. I'd say he goes pee 20+ times a day and the Dr said "he doesn't have diabetes. He isn't fat enough". That's verbatim.
Anyway, the point is that some doctors are not a good match for you (maybe someone would have been satisfied with that but i was not) and I implore you to DEMAND talking to this new senior partner dr.
Hang in there I'm definitely thinking about you and Colton a lot!!

I'm a bad mom, I didn't get the baggy on last night. I was up coughing till 3am, and was going to get up at 4 to put it on him (since he'd already peed out 2x by then, so much for FMU) and then I crashed and didn't wake up till he was crawling on me at 7am.
So we are gonna try for Monday, since they are only open for a few hours tomorrow AM and we need a mid-day sample and a FMU sample on the same day....
Of course I just changed jobs and am supposed to be back in an office 30 hours a week, and he is supposed to be going to daycare part time...(which is a whole other thread) and now I'm nervous. I'll feel much better when we get the pee samples and hopefully they are normal!!

You need to take care of yourself too. You know on planes they always tell you to put on your own oxygen mask first. Definitely not a bad mom though. I can`t imagine changing diapers all night like you do though!! I may have to try to push cloth diapers on you so you can adjust the absorbency...I`ll wait til you`re better to start that push.

This Dr. has really not been that great. We only went to him last time because we don't have insurance and a "new patient" exam is an additional $200.
DH's dad died at 42 from a heart attack, DH is 30 with cholesterol over 200 and the Dr. was like "eh, it's not THAT bad". He sucks. And Yes, it is rediculous.
Ditto Nicole! Do your best, that's all anyone can ask.

I agree with Nicole. Give yourself a break, mama!! I hope you aren't stressing yourself out so badly that it's kicking you in the butt, health wise. Can DH handle doing the AM catch?
I'd totally come help you, but it's kind of a long trip! Hugs, Mama!! You are ABSOLUTELY not a bad mom!!!!! Now you get to repeat after me: "I AM NOT A BAD MOM!" There. You can only do the best that you can do!

Thanks ladies. I managed to get a urine last night at 4:30am, so just have to grab another one this morning and then I can go drop them off at the doc. DD is having tonsils and adenoids out next week so gotta take her for pre-op BW this afternoon. They were supposed to be done 18 months ago, but she ended up with Kawasaki's the exact week the surgery was scheduled.... pretty major stunt to avoid surgery!!
On the upside, yesterday my sister, who had an easy breezy pregnancy, had an amazingly short labor and popped out a gorgeous 9lb baby boy! I got to see and hold him immediately which was just awesome. I forgot how little these guys start out! Gave me a little dose of baby fever but it seems to have passed this AM, lol!

Ok well apparently his urine is not concentrating, though they did not find any sugar or ketones so that is good. They sent me right over for bloodwork. Of course now I am going to be worried sick for the next few days waiting for the results.

No N they don't. I tried to talk to one of the younger docs about it in the fall when I had him in there because he was NQR and she blew me off and said she didn't want to go hunting for problems. But I'd think my own health history might be of some relevance, no? Even my hematologist recommended they call her at one point but I don't think they did.
Gah I'm just having the weirdest ****** day. I'm so psyched for my sister, but it also made me intensely sad for some reason. My grandma is dying, I just got back from visiting her and it is just awful. I'm supposed to start a new job in a few weeks, I'm stressed about Colt going to daycare, and now him not being well. Thankfully hubby seems to be on the mend but I'm still reeling from that whole episode, too. And M has her tonsil surgery next week and that is bring up all kinds of emotions about her ordeal last year.
Seriously just stick a fork in me, I'm done.

Yes...Kidney issues are definitely relevant. It can't hurt to let them know.

Congrats to your sister...so exciting.
Life is so dam complicated.
Sorry you're right in the middle of it right now.
Keep us posted here...or email me.

Hugs mama!!! I agree with Nicole that the ped should have your "relevant" records. Here I say that and I haven't given mine to my ped either! There are autoimmune kidney issues too. My aunt (my mom's sister) has some autoimmune kidney issue (I can't think of the name for the life of me) and my mom had Crohn's. With a family history of AI issues, the ped should definitely know about all of that.
And congrats to the new Auntie! So often, it seems like a baby is born, while another family member is passing away. Life is interesting like that. I hope your grandma isn't suffering. That's so hard to see them like that. I'll be thinking about ya!

Ok so I spoke to one of the docs this afternoon, they said the bloodwork was good but the urine was not concentrated at all, and they want us to do one more sample and then they will refer us to a nephrologist at the children's hospital. So...... I feel like I opened a can of worms which totally sucks, but they agreed it definitely needs to be looked at.

That's great that the bloodwork was good. Hopefully the nephrologist can figure out the urine part of things. It's always great to have a specialist on your team when you need them too. KUP though.

A nephrologist deals with kidney issues
So urine not being concentrated isn't a good thing? I would have thought concentrated was bad?

Yeah I guess you want a happy medium... not super concentrated, but not totally diluted. His is essentially water, his kidneys are not filtering properly, hence why he is thirsty all the time I guess. They said it has something to do with a hormonal trigger? The Nephrologist should give us a better clue.
Of course the doc started the whole conversation with "well it's one of those oddball, unusual things...." yep sounds about right for my family. Sigh.

With non concentrated urine and the mention of hormones being involved, diabetes insipidis is still on the table, although congenital diabetes insipidis makes up less than 10% of all cases of DI. What was your kidney issue, I seem not to remember.

Rebecca I was diagnosed with SLE this past fall, though I've never had any kidney implications over the years aside from protein in my urine when I was pregnant.
I think you are right that Diabetes Insipidus is still an option though I get the sense that is often a result of some underlying condition?
Turns out my husband's grandfather died at 50 of kidney failure, and his mom was hospitalized for 3 months with nephritis when she was 10. I don't know if any of that is related but worth mentioning. My hubby had "forgotten" that info until his mom reminded him tonight.
