My foster son 'J' is about 2 1/2 and is totally gung-ho about the potty. He has been showing a lot of interest in it lately, and has peed in the potty a time or two (or should I say he has peed on the floor while sitting on the potty a time or two ).

So this morning I just decided to put him in undies and see what happened. Well, he peed in his undies about 8-10 times and peed in the toilet twice. He pooped in his undies twice, pooped in the toilet once, and pooped in his diaper at bedtime. He is still gung-ho and excited and wants to sit on the potty every time after he has an accident. He tells me right away and runs up to the bathroom.

I guess I'll persist as long as he continues showing interest but this is a lot of laundry and potty trips...

How long should I wait for improvement???

He's still learning control. But as long as he is showing interest I would keep it up. I know it's alot of laundry. I've been there. When I first started out I let her go without a diaper. It was alot of messes to clean up. But after a couple of accidents on the floor she started to get the idea. and she would hurry to the potty after that. We still had intermittent accidents, but it got better.
