Hi ladies, I had a few related questions I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with. I had liver surgery 6 months ago at the transplant center in Dallas. I did not have a transplant, but only that specialized of a surgeon could fix my problem. 2 days before that surgery, I had liver drainage tubes put in. All of this was to repair a similar surgery I had 2 years ago, after my gallbladder surgery went bad. He went through the same incision this time, so thats good, but I'm very concerned about internal scar tissue. My scar goes from just below my sternum to above my right hip. I also have a 3 inch scar above my bellybutton, numerous drain hole scars, and of course my c-section scar down below from 5 years ago.

So my question is, has anyone else been pregnant after major abdominal surgery and did it affect your pregnancy at all? I've heard that I might have more painful stretching towards the end but thats all I have found. Did the scar tissue affect how soon/late you showed? Did it make you carry lopsided? Thats probably a silly question lol but with all my scars being on the right side, and all of it much harder to stretch, I'm worried the baby will all be on the left side!!

I'm also a little concerned about adhesions + constipation.

I called my surgeon to ask questions and all I got back was a message from his nurse saying I should not expect any complications. OK, so that's good, but I really want to here what a pregnant woman who's been through something similar has to say.

Anyone have experience with this? I'd love to hear how it went and if you had any troubles.

I'm glad they could fix your liver problem and are you pregnant right now if so then Congrats! Have you seen your ob yet ? I would say ask your ob your concerns as I'm for sure they know about major surgeries then pregnancy after all do you plan on having another C Section ?

Also see about maybe asking this question on the High Risk Pregnancy board or even your Due Date Community board they may be able to help you out more .

Yes I am 7 weeks today.
I have had my first OB visit, but I only saw a nurse and all they did was draw some blood. I have an appt. Dec 7th, at which I assume I will see the actual dr and get my exam etc. I plan to ask my questions but it feels like such a long time until that appointment, and I'm not sure they can give me the same answer that someone who has been pregnant through it could.

I do plan to have another c-section, it is necessary since I was cut in an upside "T" the first time. I wasn't sure this fell under high risk or not so I asked here first. If I dont get many responses I'll try over there. Thanks so much for responding!

Your so welcome as I'm for sure things will be all right and that your belly won't have trouble growing the way it should grow for a pregnancy belly .

Mully, I have a similar question...my major abdominal surgery was 5 years ago and I have a very long scar from sternum to belly button. None of my doctors at the time said pregnancy would be an issue but it makes me wonder.....I need to talk to my doctor about it too. Good luck!
