I must say I'm at a bit of a loss here. As a mom of two I should be up and up on this by now, having gone through it all before. But, I find myself at quite a loss. A few weeks ago I took a test, and it came out positive. So, I'm pregnant again. About 9 weeks along. Yippee. My question is directed toward the more medical end of this. I know I need to call a doctor, but I don't have one. I had done the first two pregnancies through a midwife service which wasn't covered by our insurance. This time around, we can't afford that kind of cost. I called the local hospital to ask some questions of their women's clinic but was met with a rather abrasive response by the receptionist who stated that I needed to get a referral from my fam. doc.

This has me a bit confused, now. Am I finding a family doc, or am I finding an ob/gyn?

Its been about five years since I was last seen by any health professional due to our insurance and financial states not really meeting toward good outcomes. Seems like such a stupid question, but I haven't really found any clear answers on the net which is what has led me here. I'd like to call, and get whatever appointments I need to set up done and over with so I can move on and be happy with it all.

Any help is appreciated!!!

Do you know if you qualify for state aid, such as pregnancy medi-cal? If you google it, you can find how to apply and what the income guidelines are. If you do qualify you can just pick a doctor that takes that insurance. Then you can start going to them. They are affiliated with different hospitals and thats where you have your baby. The hospital you called sounds useless in answering questions.
