Hey folks, I'm pregnant with twins and we've been trying for a while. this is my first successful pregnancy and I'm a little paranoid.

I'm going to be 8-9 weeks pregnant when I had planned to wear a particular costume. I've been working on making it for a long time and I'd love to wear it at least once before I start showing and have to stop making costumes for a while. (maybe switch to making bebes costumes...)

I'm almost done with the costume and I was planning to wear it March 10th weekend or the following weekend.

I wear a historic proper victorian steel boned corset with the costume. Ideally, I'd be compressing my waist about 2" smaller... ONLY my waist, the lower part of the corset would be pretty loose (little to no compression). This wouldn't be tight enough to cause shortness of breath or anything weird like that.

My plan is to wear it just long enough to do a photoshoot in the costume and then take it off to wear something more comfy. I'd also be careful to watch for dizziness because I know that can be an aggravated factor when you're pregnant (ie more than you normally have to worry about that)

When I google this question I get widely varying answers... some people saying "there's lots of fluid around the (pea sized) babies, it'll be fine" and others saying "No way!"

I'm going to talk to my OB about it... but I seriously doubt that she's had someone ask her a question like this before, so I don't know what to do!

What do you think? Should I wear the corset and just not lace it tight at all (ie, no compression) or should I go with light-lacing and compress the waist about 2" (totally easy/comfy for me when I'm not pregnant... )

As a woman that has had 4 miscarriages I would say why risk it? Can you keep the costume until after the babies are born and get your picture taken in it then?

I would ask you OB as this is defiantly an unusual but interesting question!

Ditto Missy... I don't think I would risk it! Especially with it being twins.

I don't know a thing about corsets, but I wanted to say stop by the Moms of Multiples board ... we always love to have new twins moms or moms-to-be

I would not. One of the reasons why corset wearing went out of style was because Doctors learned that they were squishing their insides making carrying a baby and birthing one to be hard. While I know some women still like to wear them, it is advised against during pregnancy.
