I am 15 weeks and 6 days pregnant with twins. I have been having a lot of problems with bleeding and cramping.
It all started when I was 11 weeks. I had a miscarriage and thought that I had lost one of my twins. I went in to see my OB the next day and she confirmed that I had lost a baby, but that the twins were still doing fine, meaning that I had been pregnant with triplets. She said the 3rd baby most have been hiding and that is why we had not seen triplets on the previous ultrasound. I continued to bleed brown blood for 4 - 5 days afterwards, but my OB assured me that was normal.
The bleeding finally stopped for about a week, when I found myself bleeding yet again, but this time it was bright red. My husband and I rushed to the ER where we sat for hours waiting to be seen. After 4 hours we decided to go home since the bleeding had slowed down some. The next morning I noticed I was bleeding heavily again and was passing blood clots, so we rushed to a different ER where we were seen 10 minutes after walking in. They did a pelvic exam, ultrasound, and blood work, but everything came back normal. The twins were fine and had strong heart beats. The ER doctor told me to see my OB on Monday (this was late Friday afternoon) We went home and the bleeding had slowed down again.
Sunday afternoon I started bleeding heavily again and Sunday night I passed what I believed to be a baby. We rushed to the ER again and they did all the same stuff once again. They confirmed that the twins were still fine with strong heart beats and that my cervix was still closed. They were confused by my bleeding and told me to take it easy until I could see my OB.
I went in on Tuesday (July 3rd) to see my OB. I told her everything that had happened over the weekend and she really didn't seem to overly concerned, which made me even more concerned. She did an ultrasound and confirmed that the twins were still beating away and my cervix was still fine. She did say that she saw some blood clots in my uterus between the babies two sacks and said that was why I was bleeding so badly (never did say WHY there were blood clots) She told me that I would pass the blood clots eventually and that once I did, I would stop bleeding.
Tuesday night and Wednesday I passed several blood clots and by Thursday night the bleeding had stopped, but I started getting these horrible cramps on my left side. My bleeding remained stopped til today (Sunday, July 8th) and once again I have started bleeding heavily and passing blood clots. I still have the cramps on my left side too. I have an appointment with my OB tomorrow, but some how I know she will not be concerned and will probably do nothing more than an ultrasound, see that the babies still have a heart beat and send me home.
I am VERY concerned about myself and my babies and want to know why I keep bleeding, but after 3 doctors none of them can tell me. I am thinking about switching to a high risk OB very soon, just simply because I need a second opinion.
So my question is to all of you, have any of you experienced anything similar? What are your opinions on what I should do?
I would get a high risk doctor as well asap. I don't know your history and I know cramping could be your uterus stretching but clots and bleeding in the second trimester is not something to be taken lightly. I would at least think they would have recommended bed rest until the bleeding stops. Take care of yourself and I hope you get some more answers.
I bled every 3 weeks until 20 weeks with my son, and my OB/GYN blew it off pretty much telling me unless I was bleeding a significant amount to stop calling them. At that point I changed doctors. He's now almost 4 years old & totally healthy, but it's scary when you are pregnant & bleeding! I would definitely get a second opinion, or ask more questions about why the clots were there. It is possible you never passed the third baby completely? I can't believe they are not giving you anymore information than that. I hope you get some answers! GL hun! Take it easy in the meantime!
Thank you for the replies! I am going to be making an appointment with a high risk OB tomorrow. I went in today to see my regular OB and told her I was still bleeding and she really didn't say much, just said "well the blood has to go somewhere"
I do have an appointment this Thursday with the ultrasound specialist, so maybe she will be able to give me some answers. We should also find out the genders on Thursday, yay!
