On sept 30th, I took 3 home pregnancy tests and all came back positive. I then went to a walk-in clinic and had a urine preg test that came back positive (I did this so that I could apply for some insurance since my job doesn't offer any currently). The doc talked to me for a little while, told me I'm about 5 weeks and wanted to see me at week 8 and said we'd do the bloodwork and all the exams then. Is this normal? I was hoping to do the bloodwork and see where my levels were and make sure they were coming up as normal since this is my first pregnancy and everything. She said that as long as I don't have any severe cramping and bleeding that everything should be just fine. This being my first pregnancy, I'm just really paranoid about everything. Any advice would be helpful!

Thanks!!

Ask what the blood work is for. With my first I didn't ask what any of it was for and they took 5 vials of blood. turned out they were testing for every STD under the sun. Thanks but no thanks. I already knew I was clean and had I known that is what they were testing for I would have said no. I'm not saying flat out refuse all the tests they want to do but ask questions about it so you know WHAT blood work they want to do and WHY they want to do it. Some dr.s don't think it is all necessary but the state for whatever reason wants them to do it.

Well, I was really asking more about if I need to get the bloodwork done to see where my hormones are. I don't mind getting all of the other tests done, I know I'm clean but I get STD testing done every year with my pap regardless.

Drs. typically don't run beta levels unless there is a reason too. Most OB's won't see you until you are 8-10 weeks pregnant, unless again, there is a reason too...history of m/c...high risk, that sort of thing.

So not seeing you until 8 weeks and not having beta's done right now is normal, don't worry!
