My ankles & feet were terribly swollen the last month of my first pregnancy. I am on my feet all day at work and as the day went on, my feet got bigger and bigger. I drank tons of water, put them up as much as I could, and wore comfy shoes. I was lucky, though, because when I woke up every morning, they were much smaller than when I went to bed. They kind of....reset.
I started swelling my 2nd trimester and it sucks! Not just my feet and ankles but my hands and legs would swell too. Lately, every morning I wake up and my hands are so swollen I can't bend my fingers. Once I'm up and about that swelling goes down a little. My feet swell so much I can't put on regular shoes (I've been wearing flip-flops). Really the only ways I've found that have helped me is elevation and compression. When my legs/ankles/feet get real bad I wrap them in ACE bandages and raise them up on pillows for a while. Just another thing I had to learn to deal with, you know? It's all worth it for my little girl though.
