Hi all,

I'm new to the board. I think it's great that there's a board like this. I'm from Los Angeles. Nice to meet y'all.

I asked my doctor and she said that it was okay. I drink about once a week about a shot glass of beer or wine. Sometimes my siblings bring something new and I want to try just a sip/shot glass of beer. My hubby was freaking out after I had a very small amount of ale that was 5% alcohol. It's not that much, really.

What do you all think? My doctor said it's okay. My hubby is actually okay with it as long as the small amount won't affect the baby, and the surgeon general doesn't recommend it. What's the truth?

I have contemplated this, and my SO and doctor both say no. No chance is better than any chance to harm baby. But then again there are other opinions and other things that could possibly harm baby as well. If I am out with friends for dinner I just get a fancy virgin drink - tastes good and I don't feel guilty.

I don't really drink beer when I'm pregnant. I just want to make sure no harm will happen to my baby and there's nothing I will regret when the baby comes out. But I think a small amount is fine. But if your hubby is freaking out, I guess you should decide to whom you should listen to whether your hubby or the doctor

NHS says it's uncertain what amount is okay to drink but usually two units of alcohol per week is ok (One unit of alcohol is about half a pint of bitter or ordinary lager (ABV [alcohol by volume] 4.5%), or a single measure of spirits (25ml) However, a 175ml glass of wine (12% ABV) is 2.1 units and a pint of strong beer (ABV 5.2%) is 3 units. The number of units in particular drinks are different, depending on the strength of the alcohol in them and the volume of the drink.)If you are on the first trimester, it is advised that you do not drink at all because the risk of that is misscarriage.I'm always on the better safe than sorry side because the risks just far outweighs the benefits of having a glass every so often.

Think about it... Most alcohol says DO NOT CONSUME WHILE PREGNANT! Come on, what matters more - you wanting "just a sip" or the health of your unborn child? If you have to think on that one, then yea your probably don't need a child. -- Not trying to be mean, but if you have to ask if it's okay then obviously even you are having doubts.

Alcohol can get into your unborn child's blood stream - it may be just 5% for you, but for that baby it could be a whole LOT more.

Precisely. These items have very clear warnings against it and should be refrained from for reasons. Just a thought, image the amount that gets you even tipsy.. Imagine that adult size sip to such a small being.

There is no safe amount of alcohol that can be consumed while being pregnant. With that said it is up to you to make the choice.
