Hello... I am new to the board, but have been lurking for a few months, as I have had some pretty severe nausea through the first trimester. I am now in my second trimester (in my 15th week), and am still experiencing some issues, which seem to be related to sugar intake - especially with dairy products and some carbs. I have my monthly Dr. appointment tomorrow, but thought I would see if anyone else has had any issues like this.

After eating or drinking anything with milk or cream or some sugar in it, I have had nausea - not to the point of throwing up, but enough to have a bad taste in my mouth for some time (hours), if I don't brush my teeth right away. I am thinking I might have a little lactose intolerance or possibly just an issue with sugar/carbs in general.

As a little history, this is my fourth pregnancy - I have two daughters, and had one miscarriage. With my girls, I had nausea that always went away after about the 13th week. With this pregnancy, the nausea was most severe up until about the 13th week, so it is very tolerable now, it just isn't completely gone. I also had Gestational Diabetes with both my girls. I suppose I could suffer from Diabetes again, but that is not even checked until around the 28th week.

Has anyone experienced these types of symptoms, and if so, did you find it to be an issue with lactose or just 'morning sickness'? Thanks in advance for any advice/insight you can give!

By the way - congrats to Lauren! - I have followed your story with little Joshua. I am very happy to hear that he is doing better (gaining weight, less severe incidents, etc).

Hi there!!!

I am glad you finally decided to post instead of just lurking. Congratulations on your pregnancy. When I was pregnant I had a lot of trouble tolerating dairy products or sugary foods. Hershey's Kisses were my worst enemy. I think it was a combination of morning sickness, dairy, and excessive amounts of sugar. I had Gestational Diabetes as well and got a very weird taste in my mouth after I consumed too much sugar or carbohydrates. Sometimes it was a metallic taste -- almost like I sucked on a coin. Very gross. It definitely helped the morning sickness and everything else when I backed off a lot of dairy products and sugary foods. I really did notice a significant improvement on how I felt.

You may be sensitive to dairy and sugar right now, and you may have developed GD again...

Good luck and thanks for the congratulations!

Hello!

I was the same with dairy and sugary foods. I suffered with HG but not gestinal diabeites. But too much milk or sugar would make me feel very very ill.

I don't think it's lactose intolrence, though I could be wrong, my partner is and a lot of his family, and they suffer more (from the other end) and with sever stomach cramps, like food posoining?

I hope to see you around more, and this can get sorted so you can enjoy your pregnancy.!!

Thanks ladies! After seeing my doctor, she thinks it is still just some 'morning sickness' - most likely a sensitivity to carbs that may go away with time. Is tolerable at this point.
