Not sure. I am getting a book from my sister (prolly this weekend) which talks about how to transition a baby into foods from just breast milk/formula and it says which to feed em when and recipies and such. I was going to follow the book.

Tim's family is really big on starting solids pretty much immediately, which I do not go along with. They like to feed solids at around 1 month, and that's starting with whatever, not just rice or cereal. So we don't agree on that point

I prefer to start solids around 6 months.

I'm not sure. Not for at least 6 months. I also probably won't be doing rice cereal, as far as I can tell it doesn't really have much nutritional value? At least nothing that baby doesn't already get from milk/formula so it doesn't seem necessary if baby isn't on solely solids. I've mostly heard of it being used to get babies to sleep through the night... So when we do start solids, it'll be fruits and veggies

For us, rice and cereal is a compromise - I'm feeding solids so DH and his family back off. Dalton loved to have frozen fruits in those little mesh chewers when he was teething

I would like to delay feeding solids, but I haven't decided when.

My husband was started on baby cereal mixed in with his formula at only 4 DAYS OLD!!!

I was started on solids between 6 to 9 months. Can't remember exactly when right now. I'll have to ask my mom.

I start them at 5-6 months, once they can sit up and protect that little airway

Most doctors suggest you can start between 4-6 months. But with my son, I started at 6months and 2 weeks. Exclusive breastfeeding is best up to 6 months. And of course your child should know how to sit down already and knows how to swallow. ;p

It makes me feel better to hear there are other families that don't wait to start too - it was such a battle with Tim's family, it was like they had never heard of waiting. Plus, they are strongly against breastfeeding, so the whole infant nutrition thing was just a battle forever
