Do you have any tips/tricks for staying on top of your laundry?

Yes, please share, those of you who actually do laundry! I swear, every day I think "I should really do a load of laundry today" and I never do, not until we run out of clean things to wear x)

I do laundry on one day because that is what has worked, but I'm going to be moving to a new system.

anyhow what I do now is I sort as it's put into dirty clothes (I have a 3 spot hamper for lights, darks, whites) I wash from hardest to put away to easiest, so for me that is lights, darks, whites, towels/blankets. I will start 1 load, switch to dryer, then wait like 20 minutes start the next load. once the dryer is done, I unload it and put it all away. once that is done, usually the washer is done so I move that to dryer (if I didn't do that when I emptied the dryer) I do not, ever, under any circumstances, start the next load in the washer, until that load is PUT AWAY. then you don't get behind on putting away.

I don't fold. the only stuff in my house that is in a dresser is socks, undergarments and pjs. so pjs do get folded as I pull them out, but everything else is hung and makes it that much easier to put away.

i also don't match socks, they get put in each persons drawer and matched as they are worn. (and we all have like 1 type of sock so matching really isn't a big deal in the mornings, but that way I don't have random socks laying around after washing because I think I'm missing one)

I wish I had enough closet space to hang everything... We are maxing out closet space right now, and that's with one big dresser for Tim & Dalton and one medium-sized one for me and the baby. Plus Tim's work clothes are folded in a laundry basket at the bottom of the closet. Likewise, we don't have space for linens, so we have a small dresser just for linens!

Right now I have 2 baskets of clothes just waiting for me to fold them and put them away at home. But after those are done, I will actually be almost all caught up on laundry.... Almost.

So what is the new routine you're going to Ro?

i know you have small old closets like I do, have you looked into a system..

umm let me find a link
Shop Storage : Closet Organization : Closet Organizers at Lowes.com
kinda like that but not really what I mean... any how it will really maximize the closet space.

my new system, I have to work out the kinks, but I want to do laundry all week long, rather then all weekend long. so that way when we go back home on the weekends, I don't get home Sunday night and throw in a load so we have something to wear on Monday am.

I need to decide what is best for which day though... AND find the time to wash, ry and put away in the evenings.

the four kids share a large basket, it gets separated into darks and lights once its full and washed, so every 3-4 days or so
dh and I each have our own baskets and do our own laundry-I sept my darks, he doesn't
towels get stored in the laundry sink until I have enough for a load, so every 5 days
buy a really large capacity washer and dryer, and own lots of clothes
