How do you get a LO to drink from a straw. Nicole has never been able to do this. Actually she has done it twice I think. But she usually just puts it in her mouth or gets upset and pushes it away. Ive tried showing her how and it doesnt help.
Maddie is just starting to get the hang of this. We've only tried a few times with a juice box and a new sippy cup and she really has it down now, but I have to be holding the cup or whatever or it'll end up everywhere.
I started teaching her when we were at restaurants. I'd put some water in a straw holding the end with my finger and get it in her mouth that way, so she knows what straws are for.
With my daughter she picked it up on her own. Her one year birthday she drank out of a straw on a wim! LOL She coughed at first but wanted more LOL but I was shocked. I do believe it was by accident but we just watched being all happy! LOL She stopped the bottle at the same time. She just did it on her own.
have her BLOW into it to make bubbles in her drink (don't do it with milk.....milk bubbles don't dissipate and you wind up wiht a huge mess).
then tell her to DRINK.
I do the reverse to get Sam to actually drink. he knows how.....he'd just rather blow bubbles. So, I let him blow bubbles, then I say, "okay, now take a drink"......then he asks "bubbles?" and we do it all over again.
