I think I might be getting a little dose of the flu, or some sort of illness (got a headache right now & feel like general cr@p)... I was never sick with Gaby, and haven't discussed it with my m/w since my first visit - and of course have forgotten it all
So remind me - what symptoms do I need to contact my midwife about, when I am ill???

Fever is a big one...your body temp goes up, can effect the babies body temp. If you are coming down with the Flu, you should see the doctor for antibiotics for it. Since vomiting and diarrhea are usually associated with it, you don't want to get dehydrated so drink lots of fluids. And if you are getting dehydrated you need to call ur m/w. They might just hook you up to an IV to get some fluids in you quickly.

Me personally, I wait until I have a high fever, or if I were dehydrated. I had the flu a while back in November and called and they didn't even want to see me unless my fever was high. So I usually just rest at home when I'm sick.
I'm actually sick right now with a sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, headache, and occasionally a low fever. But I haven't called because here they won't do anything for me.
I'm curious what everyone else says.
Also, wanted to add when I had the flu, I had diarrhea and they just told me to take some medicine (forget which one) and follow the brat diet. I had vomitting too. They never mentioned anything about antibiotics. My doctors nurse could just be an idiot though!

The reason I suggest seeing a doctor asap is since we have the Swine Flu thing, Flu symptoms should not be ignored.

Exactly, definately call and see what they say.
My doctors office just didn't want to see me when I had it. Like I said though probably just my doctors stupid nurse(no offense to anyone who is a nurse)

thanks ladies... been keeping an eye on my temp & so far it is in the normal range, I am thinking maybe it's just going to get to the extent of a nasty headache and feeling a bit yucky...

Fever, dehydration, difficulty breathing, that type of thing is what I would call about.

I just wanted to add that antibiotics should not be prescribed for the Flu. It is a virus and antibiotics fight bacteria, not viruses. Now if there is an underlying infection, then it's a different story. In certain instances (like H1N1 for example) antivirals can be prescribed. But in most cases, just like with any virus, the best thing to do is get some rest, stay hydrated and wait for it to pass. Just wanted to specify because a doc who doesn't prescribe antibiotics for the Flu is not stupid at all! LOL

With me personnally I go in right away - but I can go from having a cough and runny nose one day to pneumonia the next. And a lot of times my symptoms are not as bad as they would expect them to be for what I have. I have went to the drs thinking I just had another stupid sinus infection and found out it was bronchitis. So I would say it depends on your body - for a high fever or dehydration def call but for anything else you know your body best.

Ditto this. Even a little bit of a fever is ok, that is how your body naturally fights a virus (obviously a high fever should be reported to your dr/midwife)

I had H1N1 back in November. After 24 hours of not being able to keep any fluids down, I went to the ER for fluids. A mild fever wouldn't concern me either, its just your body's way of fighting off infection. The best thing you can do is stay hydrated and rest.
