Im so confused about this whole "bassinet, cradle, pack & play" decision. I have researched hundreds of them and still dont know which are best to have baby sleep in our room in for the first few months. Most have weight limits of like 15 which stinks.
Right now I'm leaning towards a pack and play only because we can use it again for a play pen later on. UGH What are you ladies doing? Which ones worked best for you in the past??
i dont know what to do either (i'm such a big help huh? lol) The pack and play will get more use but I like the look of the bassinet and it's also smaller and easier to move around the house i assume as most of them are narrow and on wheels. As of right now I have a bassinet on my registry but am not totally decided.
Yeah that's one of the pros of a bassinet, light and easy to move around but then after 3 months you never use it again. I was all about a bassinet yesterday now today I'm questioning it. Ugh I have a headache from all this LOL.
If you have a 2 story house, I would def. recommend a pack n play. Because a lot of them have the changing "table" and diaper/wipe storage on there so you don't have to go up and down the stairs each time to change her.
Bassinets are cute, but like you said, only good for 2 months or so.
Plus, if you are trying to go on vacation anywhere, even a weekend trip, a pack n play is a necessity! We went to the beach for a week when DD Was about 5 months old and flew to Vegas for my brothers weddng when she was about 9 months old and it was great to just pack up and take her there. Didn't want to use hotel cribs!
We used a pack and play that had the bassinet and changing table on top. It is a lot bigger than a bassinet. The bassinet part on ours did have a 15lb weight limit, but you can always have baby sleep in the lower part once that weight is passed. We still use ours, when Carly sleeps at my moms house she sleeps in the lower part.
The changing part was useful for us. Easy not to have to leave our bedroom in the night for a diaper change. We didn't like to change her on the bed because if she peed on it we didn't want to change the sheets in the middle of the night.
i had this issue a while back. i want a crib but i already have a pack n play and since we dont have much room it will be easier to use the pack n play. dh says hes not buying a crib that were just using the pack n play.
i am gonna say the bassinet thats what i used with #3 and am gonna use again for this baby. I do use a pack adn play in my living room dureing the day though
I bought a bassinet for this one. It also converts to a changing table...so I figure when she's done sleeping in it, we'll just use it as the changing table. I also have a 2 story house, and still have a changing table from first dd. I'll set that one up downstairs. Plus I think this one is pretty. The top is also a Moses basket, so I can move her around if I feel I need to. Here's a link.
I had all three with DD and used them all. The bassinet is only good for the first few months, but it worked well for us during that time. Then she switched to the crib during the day. We had the playpen set up in the living room, but actually rarely used it.
This time, we will do the same with the bassinet for the first couple of months and make the switch to the crib. I think the playpen will get a bit more use this time around, but we'll see.
Once this one outgrows the bassinet, we will sell it since we won't be needing it anymore. It is a pain to store since we couldn't really take it apart.

We have a co-sleeper which will be fine for Dean during the first 3-4 months and then we'll have him in the crib during the night but the pack and play for naps.
Yup, I vote pack and play too. We used ours as a bassinet the first couple of months, as a play pen when he was crawling (for short periods of time) and at almost two and a half he still uses it to sleep in when we go away somewhere. He's familiar with it and goes down like a dream.
We plan on using a bassinet for the first few months and then she will move to her crib. We are getting a pack and play as well for if she stays at my parents house or something...

I like to have both. I have small rooms and the bassinet fits much better in my room than the pak and play but I really like to have the pak and play when we go anywhere. I also like to keep a Moses basket around to when they are small.
My best advice is to look at your space your budget, and how you are planning on feeding. Do you plan on traveling a lot after baby is born? That will give you all of the answers that you need.
I like it because it's bigger than the Pack n Plays, with a higher weight limit for the bassinet than Pack n Plays so you can use it longer if necessary. And when you're done with the bassinet around 4 months or so, you now have a very large playpen! My girls love playing in this thing, especially filled with pit balls. They're 18 months now & I STILL get a lot of use out of this playard. If you buy a bassinet only, you'll only get a few months' use out of it.
