The thing is I live in a condo and probably will for another few years so baby is on the same level as me whether in the nursery or my bedroom. The only time Ill be away away is to take the dogs for a quick pee break. Should I just get an audio one since I can essentially look at the baby if I wanted to easily?
I really considered the video one, as we now live in a two-floor house, but at the end of debating decided I didn't want to put out that much money...
I was just going to buy a second audio one, but we've recently been experimenting with not using DS's in his room, and it's been going fine (he's 2.5 now) so we're just going to move that one over into baby's room. It's an Angel Care, but just with the movement and sound monitor, it doesn't have the temperature thing. I've been really happy with it!
Since you live on one floor, I'd say just go for a simpler audio one... you'll only be using it for a couple years, and in fact I know many people who stopped using them much earlier than me.
We had a Summer Infant video one with DS and we'll get one again. It lasted almost 2 years. The only reason it's not working now is that DS decided he loved seeing his room and kept dropping the handheld! We live in a 2 story house so it was nice to have the handheld with video to see Harvey when he was asleeping or stirring. I like the first monitor you posted.

I want the angelcare one...the only thing with video monitors, while I was researching them, some of the reviews on Amazon said that (I'm not sure which models, but there were more than one) only had two frequencies, so if two people near you (especially living in a condo) have the same monitor, you may not have a free band to use. Also, people with the same monitor could potentially see your baby or the nursery (which may or may not matter to you). Anyway, if you get a video monitor, you may want to test it out when it's returnable to see if you can see anyone else's house with it, and make sure there is a channel that works....or read the reviews on Amazon, I found them helpful.

Thank you Quantum_Leap for the gorgeous siggy!!
I'm personally getting the Angelcare Sound & Movement.. well, I HAVE it... Me being me, I can't function properly if I don't use it, because I am constantly paranoid about SIDS...
I LOVE having a video monitor! But my daughter is a terrible sleeper, and even at 2 years old is still waking up often at night. It's nice for me to see her because I can usually tell if I need to go in or if she's going to be able to settle herself back to sleep. It has saved me lots of unnecessary trips into her room at night. And it's fun to watch her play by herself in the morning before I go in! We have a Safety 1st portable one. It has pros and cons. I've never had any major problems with it and the picture is pretty good, but it doesn't hold a charge very well at all.
I don't need anything fancy. Baby is going to be in my room for the first year and I'll just use a simple audio one if I'm downstairs and he's upstairs.
We just have a regular audio one... I think it's Graco brand... it has one transmitter and two receivers, and we basically just use it when we're outside, because our house is all one floor.
We love having a video monitor because we don't have to open Carly's door to check on her. Whenever we would go in there she would wake up, so it was a pain with just the audio one.
we'll be getting a video monitor. i have a feeling that if i only had an audio monitor, I'd be walking into baby's room all the time to see what he was doing.
