okay i am feeling really ridiculous about my NST/BST today.
Okay so I have to go every week and have these done do to GD.
Well, until today i have been fine with everything. I was spontaneuously contracting and they were counting those and saying that baby looked good and I was done.
Well, today, the nurse i had, well she is By. THE. Book. chic. Well, me being slight or a little more than slight OCD.So I get the point about doing things right.
well, you are suppsed to have three contractions in 10minutes. Well to say, i guess the OTHER nurses didnt do that and today I wasnt leaving till I did. So she said i had to do nipple stimulationand it had to happen in 10min.!
okay I dont know what is wrong with me, but i about freaked, but not on her. I felt terrible! and like everyone was staring at me, and when she left after giving me a sheet for doing that, i started balling! OVER THIS!! ??? okay, this should NOT be a big deal, but I am not likeing having to do this, with all the nurses outside KNOWING I am, I know it isnt "dirty" but man I feel an invasion of privacy maybe??? I cannot tell you why, but I just wanted felt stress butterflies in my belly, and I was all upset and wanted to just leave! WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME!! I was nice and everything, but when she came back in, I think she could tell I had been crying, well literally BALLING! I can cry quiet no matter how I try! OKay, am I syco?? WHAT am I going to do about the next one next week??!! and it does NOT help that I am pouring milk evertime they ask me to do this! I HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE IT!!!

I woulda told her to f-off, but that's just me. And actually nipple stimulation does nothing for me at all. I could do it an hour and not have a single contraction, lol! Puts a real damper on their testing.

ok i had to say i laughed at this,( you know the nervous haha laugh!!!) As i would be superbly uncomfy with having them tell me to do nipple stimulation, ( it wold be weird for me!!!) and i know For some, it can put you into labour ,Can you ask if there is another method you can use next time, as it made you ( i think) uncomfortable????

I guess I'm confused. Why do you have to have contractions for them to measure? I have NST's every week and all I get is hooked up to the monitor and to push the clicker when I feel baby move.

^^ditto, not sure what is up with needing to have contractions? I have NSTs2x a week and they do hook a contraction monitor up, sometimes I have them and sometimes I don't but that isn't part of passing the test? at any rate I would of been totally put of by that LOL weird!

yah, im confused as to why you'd have to have contractions...and for the nipple stimulation I'd have told her 'Um no thanks" that can actulaly send some women into full blown labor..... why would they make you do that.. maybe I just don't understand everything at the moment.

the NST I dont, but the BST I do. They want to see if the baby has any heart lowering durring contractions within the 10min. I am so glad I am not the only one uncomfy with this. I felt terrible because i told the nurse, to tell my doc, how would he feel if he was in a room with a curtain and was asked to play with himself while everyone WAITED For the reaction it made!! she just grinned and shook her head, My only other options she said I had was to be put on oxitocin or have her call my doc, which he would probably FLIP!! on me, and say somthing to the nature of, we need to do this to see how the baby is reacting to blah blah blah, well, that is NOT helpful

They would seriously give you Pitocin (synthetic oxytocin) if you refused to do nipple stimulation? This seems weird to me.
Regardless I would of been kinda embarassed/nervous if they told me to do nipple stimulation and then waited.

Add me to the confused list. I have never heard of having to have contractions for that type of testing, and I am baffled as to why they would want a pregnant woman who is not to term to "force" contractions. I don't think I would be comfortable with that either.

A contraction stress test is a real thing and they do indeed use pit if they need to. The point is to determine if baby can tolerate contractions although my peri told me that they won't do that test until we are getting closer to ready to deliver because of the possibility that it can lead to labor.

I can see why they would want to know if baby could handle contractions but why are they concerend about that at 34 weeks?
