So haven't been getting much sleep lately...

Today, we went out and met a friend and her children at the park. When we left, DS hopped up into the minivan on Emily's side, walked across and climbed up in his seat. Then I popped DD into the infant carrier base. Then I spent a few minutes unloading the bags into the car, getting the stroller folded up, etc. At this point, I usually go around to DS's side and help him strap in (he likes to start the buckle but can't do the whole thing himself.)

Yeah... I just finished unlaoding eveything and got into the car... on autopilot... 10 minutes later, we get home and DS just hops out of his seat... DUH! I had never strapped him in!

I was HORRIFIED! He travelled the whole way without his seat belt done up!!!

That is officially bad parenting

Yep same thing happened to me a couple weeks ago. Luckily my two year old started screaming she wasn't strapped after a couple minutes.

I've forgotten many times but DS is a seat belt freak (thank goodness) so he let me know right away. I'm glad nothing happened though!!!

I remember one time I drove down the street to pay a bill with ds and when I went to get him out of his seat, it was super loose. I didn't realize that he unbuckled the strap that keeps the car seat tight. I was horrified too and the "what ifs" flashed through my mind for weeks and weeks.

*Hugs!*

urm, I did that with Emersyn the first time I took her out...... *gulp* Luckily we'd only driven about 5 minutes before I had to stop & wait for a friend, and looked back & saw she was unbuckled... NOT something I am proud of

Yup, I've done it with Carly too! I was so thankful we didn't get into an accident once I realized it, whats worse is I put her in it, then got distracted and didn't buckle her. Not even like she climbed in herself!

Don't sweat it! Not only is it something that could happen to any of us, I think it's something that does happen to most of us at least once.

I've done that with DS once. I felt horrible, but luckily everything turned out ok. It happens so don't beat yourself up.

There have many times i would have done the same thing myself. luckly my DD can completely strap herself in, she just can't unbuckle herself. So there have been times that I have gotten the DS out and forgot to reach across to get the DD out. Luckly she yells at me when I start to close the door. So if I can forget to get her out I'm sure id forget to buckle her in as well.

Yeah I have totally done that more than once sadly! Once I forgot to buckle the car seat in and noticed when I went around a corner that the car seat tipped over.

I did it with Rebecca when she was about 6 months old (and I have NO idea why I forgot!!), and then DH forgot the day before Elias was born, lol. She got really mad about that one because she couldn't get the clips all done up herself, so she started asking for help... we pulled over REALLY FAST!
