... what age did you start cereal (for BTDT moms)? If you're a first-time mom, what's your plan?

With DS, he started cereals just shy of five months (I had always staunchly said we would not start earlier than six months, but he was very ready for it!) He took to it immediately.

With Emily, I'm again planning to wait till 6 months as per the recommendatins, but if she appears ready before then, I have no problem starting at 5-ish months.

With DS we started cereal at 4 months, and other baby food at 6 months.

family keeps telling me to start at 3 months, but I've read you should wait until 4-6. I will probably wait the full 6 to be on the safe side.

maybe your cereal is different to ours?

Gaby started baby food (ie pureed fruits & veges) at 4 months, and then started having cereal (baby oatmeal) at 6 months...

We didn't do purees really, because for the most part Rebecca wouldn't eat anything mushy, LOL. We started finger foods (rice, grated apples, grated pears, etc) when she was around 8.5/9 months old. We'll be delaying solids with Elias as well if I have anything to do with it, but he's already interested in this stuff we put in our mouths, so we'll see, lol. He's not getting anything until he'll put it in his mouth himself, so whenever he starts doing that I guess he'll start solids.

It's been different for all 3 of my older kids with Nicky it was 2 months because he was just so hungry all of the time, he was more than ready for it! Natalie was 6 months, and Autumn was 9 months before she showed one bit of interest in any kind of food.
Mainly I just let them tell me when they are ready. I don't have any plan other than that.

natalies gastro dr had us start her on cereal last week - so at 12 weeks and he said he will probably have us start her on baby food in a month. right now she is on enfamil ar plus 1 tsp of cereal per ounce plus a bowl of cereal if she is still really hungry during the day. he wants her getting no more than 24 oz of formula a day because she is 8lbs and she was wanting to eat 3 1/2 to 4 ounces every 2 hours - whivh is way too much in a day.

We didn't do cereal with Alie, just went straight for the purees at 6 months. I might delay solids with Christian til 8 or 9 months.

We started cereal with Carly at 4 months, and purees at 5 months. I'm actually thinking about just skipping cereal this time. And I'll be waiting until Sofia is ready, whenever that may be.

We are already on cereal! Our pediatrian recommended it for Luke due to his gastro issues. I thought it was way too early, but we started DD on it at 3 months, and he's 9 weeks. We only put a tablespoon in a four oz bottle of formula though. And we just started it so we will see how it goes!

If you don't mind me asking, how come? Why not offer cereals or purees on a spoon?

I started all my kids on cereal at 4 months. That is when WIC suggests starting it and starts putting it on the WIC checks. I will introduce stage 1 fruits at that time too. I usually mix a little bit in the cereal for some flavor.

DD was 6 months when I introduced cereals and 8 months when I started adding veggies/fruits. I want to wait until 6 months with James, but he has a huge appetite so I may need to start a little earlier with the cereals.
