Layer a plain paper over a bold patterned paper then remove pieces from the plain paper to show the pattern underneath.

Okay, just tell me if I'm banished from this, but I did a not super bold paper on top of a plain one and erased...I'm such a rule breaker! It just worked better with this page. (which I already had almost done by the time I saw this post, but decided to try my hand at this technique on this page)
