Hi again everyone! I know I introduced myself before but it's been awhile. I'm Sara, 22, and mother to Gemma, 2. My SO is Zack, 27, and he just got transferred to NC. Zack and I both work in NDE. He does Ultrasonics and I do Radiography which means I get radiation on a daily basis. Zack does not want any more kids. I would like one more. However, I'm worried about the effects the radiation will have on future children. Has anyone here chosen not to have more children because of job exposures/hazards? How did you feel about giving up one dream for another? Thanks in advance!

I don't know what to say about chemicals but to look on the net. As far as dreams...I think we all give up something sometime for our children and family. Good luck

I agree we all give up dreams. Remember there's alway adoption in the future.

This is a tough one for me to answer. giving up one dream for another. I realized I would have burned out and not truly been happy. Have I given up my dreams. No you have nothing without your dreams but they have been altered to fit curent situation. I do think about wow I should have been here by now. It was all planned but life doesn't always lisien. I think in the end I'll be where it is best for me. Just keep an openned mind and talk.
Why doesn't he want anymore kids?
Why do you want more kids?
what about adoption if it's do to work?

I hope this helps...

His sister is adopted and so he says thats out of the question. She hates being the 'adopted kid'. Anyway, what I was really asking if anyone chose to give up more children to follow their career dreams. And how do you feel about that decision now? I'm actually working on getting into a better career that would have better pay, benefits, and a better chance of me being able to TTC again. I've decided that if all goes well in the new career then I will tell Zack he has to make up his mind. If there are no children in our future I may not be able to stay with him. However, I think a large part of his worry is financial and career issues so that may be resolved if I get this position. The other major thing he worries about is genetic issues. He has reynaud's syndrome, RLS, and had skin cancer at 26. I think visiting with a genetic counselor may put some of his concerns to rest. Here's to hoping!

Sorry this reply is late but what kind of radiology do you do? I work in a dental office and while we are exposed more than the average person we do take precautions. I dont know how it works elsewhere but I would talk to your doc about that. Maybe you are not getting as much exposure as you think. I dont know what else to add but that you are still kind of younng so maybe your So/Dh(sorry I didnt catch which he was) will have a change of heart. We thought we were through after our girls and then had our ds later. Good luck!
