Where do we start, what kind of dr.? Does a family dr do it or someone special? From what i have read it seems less invasive than a tubal. We have two kids and are done and the pills just dont work for me since I can't remember to take it. I was thinking of doing the IUD but not too sure of what the side effects are.

One of the family docs in our group was going to do it, but it was a military hospital so things worked differently. I would call your insurance and ask what their procedure is to have it done. Best of luck to you, my hubby had it done a little over 2 years ago.
My hubby had his vasectomy done in March. Our family doctor did it. I had an IUD put in at 7 weeks postpartum and it didn't work for me, I felt sick and gained weight and I bled for the full 8 weeks that I had it in...It was not a good experience for me. The one I used was the Mirena. I wouldn't recommend it, but some women do okay on it. My family dr said if you're done having kids and are sure the best option is to get the vasectomy....now we don't have to worry about birth control and it's GREAT!!! we are much more spontanious in the bedroom (well as much as we can be with 4 kids lol) Hubby was completely healed and back to normal within 3 weeks. After all we gave birth to their kids the least they can do is get this simple procedure done! JMO!!! My hubby is great!!

I have the IUD. and have had it since May 2006. and LOVE IT. i have no periods or anything. i personally think its perfect espically if you dont plan to have kids. It stays for 10 years. and you just get a new one. i dont have to worry about changing mine untill 2016. Not bad i say. And side effects i really dont have any. i feel the same as i did before the IUD.
