I started early, so-to-speak...I had an unwritten rule that only formula was given in a bottle, everything else (water, juice, regular milk) by sippy cup. Of course they never got too much water or juice until they got the hang of the sippy cup, but I started trying it for them at 6 months, so by 8 months they were quite good with it.

Then when it came time for the formula to be gone, they never made a peep about the bottle. However, they were pacifier babies, and they were still on the pacifier, so that could have been why the transition was easy.

Hi I am new. My name is Eileen and I have 16 and 4 year old daughter and a 1 year old son. I breastfed and anything else (water or juice) was in a sippy cup from about 6 months.

to most of that. i started introducing a sippy at about 9 months maybe. and the bottle was gone along with the formula by 1 yr old.

I agree with this also. Although we started the sippy at 4 months old, the same time juice entered the picture. Juice was always in the sippy, formula in the bottle. About 11 1/2 months old or so he wanted nothing more to do with formula so bottles just got thrown away. We started him on milk and that went into the sippy. But we NEVER put him to bed with a bottle, it was always he ate and the bottle went away, I didn't have a problem with him eating and then going to slepe but bottles were not allowed in the crib or playpen for any reason. So when he was never dependent on them to fall asleep. Once he didn't want anymore formula we took the bottles away and that was that. He still drank his juice and milk from a sippy and never the knew the difference. And he hated pacifiers from day 1 so for us that had nothing to do with the transition as we never had any around. By 11 1/2 months he had no bottle and no pacifiers, only sippy cups, then regular cups.
