The past two days have been such a whirlwind, I have to write his birth story while it's still fresh in my mind! Some of this may be a but redundant to those of you who followed my twitter, but I'll be elaborating a bit and hopefully can make it a little interesting :-)
We left for the hospital at 4:30 a.m to get there an hour early for my scheduled induction time of 6. As usual with hospitals, we waited around in our room for a while before starting anything....I basically just hung out on the monitor until 8:30. At this point they broke my water. I wanted to walk for a while to see if my contractions intensified from my water being broken; but unfortunately no dice. We walked for about 20 minutes and it didn't change anything. My doc was pretty set on starting pitocin a.s.a.p.
I was sort of annoyed by that, but thankfully I had an amazingly awesome nurse who promised she would not start me on more than 1 ml unit. She did that and actually turned it town to .5ml unit because my contractions were stacking and I couldn't catch a break.
I did decide to get an epidural, the pitocin contractions were just too much. I hesitate to include these details, I don't want to discourage anyone from getting an epidural, but what happened with mine was so crazy, I really have to share. He pounded that sucker in three different times b.c I was "too tight"? Whatever that means. This was the most miserable part of the entire labor. When he did finally get it in, he couldn't get the cath into the needle, lol. It took FOREVER and I was dying.
Here is the kicker. Gavin was born less than an hour after I got the epi. So it never relieved any of my contractions, HA! It did, however, make pushing and all that much nicer.
So I got the pitocin at 9:30, and pushed him out in three contractions at 12:02. It was awesome.
Bad news is, major tearing...ugggghhh. I tore horribly with Aiden and was convinced that all the prep I had done in this pregnancy was going to prevent that, but apparently I just can't push out a baby without, as my doctor put it, ripping myself a new butt hole. lol.
So Gavin James was born, 8 0z, 20.5 inches...he's a little chunk and I am so in love with him!
Breastfeeding started out rocky, he had a bit of a digestive issue and was pukey and really really sleepy, but he's caught on now and doing great.
After having such a great birthing experience, I am even more excited for you all about to have your babies and hope you all have a labor and delivery as wonderful as mine was!
Thanks for reading!

That sounds like a great birth story---except for the bad epi experience! I'm glad that you will have fond memories of your birth! That's important to me, and I hope that I feel the same way about mine, however it goes.

Thanks for sharing your story!
Like everyone else said, sorry about the tearing. Why didn't your doctor do an episiotomy (sp) to prevent the tearing? I have gladly accepted one with both of my two girls and plan to do the same this time around just to avoid the tearing if needed. Ouch! Hope you are healing quickly from it hun!
He is adorable and I can't wait to see more pics of him soon! Congrats again!

Congrats! I feel your pain with the epi. This is the one thing I dread with this labor since I had a horrible experience with it with my DD, but I want to have it because I don't tolerate pain at all. My vertibrays were too close together that is probably what they meant about you being too tight.
