At my 36 week appointment my doctor checked me and I was 3-4 cm dilated. I went home thinking all right any day now. At my 38 week check up I was 5-6 cm dilated and I told the doctor my concerns for my blood pressure rising (since I had pre-eclampsia with my first DD) and that I was concerned I wouldn't make it to the hospital in time to get an epidural so she decided to induce me on her Saturday oncall. I had her strip my membranes (that was on a Thursday) and I went home thinking I wouldn't make it to Saturday. Well I did make it til Saturday. My husband and I got to the hospital at 7 a.m. and they hooked up my i.v. and started pitocin at 8:20 a.m. my epidural was done around 10 a.m. and my doctor came in to break my water at about 10:30 a.m. I was pretty pain free because I asked the nurse not to turn the picotin up until after my epidural and she was nice and didn't. After my water was broke they turned the level up to 8 and the contractions started getting heavy and closer together. I felt more pain with this labor even with the epidural but it wasn't bad at all, just bad mensural cramps. Around 12 p.m. the nurse checked me and said I was dilated to 8 cm and I told her well I had my daughter 45 mins after I was 8 cm the first time around. At 12:45 p.m. I called the nurse to push my epidural button because I wasn't sure if it was wearing off or I was just feeling her head move down more. My nurse was at lunch I guess so another nurse came in and pushed the button for me. Then a few minutes lately she came back and said she talked to my nurse and was going to check me since I dilated so quickly with my first baby and I was feeling more pressure and pain. Well sure enough I was complete and +2. My doctor was at home so they called her and told me not to push until she got there. It was about 1:05 p.m. when my doctor walked in and I started pushing. I pushed for 3 contractions 3-4 sets of 10 count pushes and Maycie Grace was born at 1:15 p.m. She was the most beautiful baby ever and I'm so in love with her. The whole labor experience this time was so much better than with Allison.
