So I had my induction scheduled for the 31st. I didn't really want an April Fool's Baby but I didn't want a March baby so I took the date. I was really really nervous going in, hearing a lot of horror stories and people saying how bad an induction can be, but I am glad I was induced. So I got to the hospital at 8pm. They took forever putting in my IV and getting me ready, they finally checked me and I was at a 1. So glad I never had a cervical check before this one because it did hurt. They decided to do an EZ instead of cervadil. At 11:30 they put in the EZ which is a long cathater (sp) thing they put in just past your cervix. Then they inflate the end to a tiny balloon. They started pitocin and with contractions the balloon pushes on your cervix acting like the baby's head. It falls out when you reach 3 or 4 cm. So at 2:30am it came out and I was a 4. They were expecting it to come out at 6am so it happened pretty quickly for me. Contractions weren't too bad, just felt like period cramps at this point but I ordered the epi since I didn't know how fast I would progress. I was so scared to get the epi but it was fine even though the guy was not friendly at all. This is where things went a little downhill. I could slightly feel my contractions and my legs which was good but it mafe me really itchy so they gave me benedrill and I had a bad reaction to that. I got really sick, puking, couldn't hold myself up. So they turned the epi off. I passed out for a bit. Around 7 still at a 4. They turned the epi back on and it only worked on half my body. At about 11:30 I was a 6. Pain was getting really bad and I kept complaining about the epi. By this point I couldn't feel anything in my legs or right side of my body but still felt contractions on left side. They checked me again at 12:15 and I was a 10! Feeling the contractions helped in the long run because I knew when to push and it kept me determined. I pushed from 12:30-1:15 and at 1:16 my girl was born. 7lbs. 20.5 in. My doc was awesome and so were the nurses they really helped me know what to do and I ended up with no stiches at all!
Childbirth was something I was terrified to do but with what you get out of it I would do it again in a heartbeat.
