I was looking online and from what I see, the first trimester screening tests for:
Blood type (A, B, AB or O)
Rh factor (Rh positive or Rh negative)
Anemia
Rubella immunity status
Diabetes
Hepatitis
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV, the virus that cause Aquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome, or AIDS)
Sexually transmitted diseases as recommended by your health care provider
Has anyone refused this testing? I ask because of the 8 things tested for, only 2 would I "need" (anemia, diabetes). Or has anyone asked for only specific tests rather than the entire prenatal panel? I realized that I've had this test 8 times and for what? To find that my blood type is the same as it's always been? Or that I don't have HIV (big surprise there)?

They always asked if I wanted to get tested for HIV. I never do because I know I don't have it. They just make me sign a form saying I refused the test. So maybe ask to see if you have to get all the tests done?

There is a form for if I refuse that test but I don't know about the others.

think its mandatory to have hiv and any sexually transmitted disease tests. its only blood
It's also $. Some of the tests are not cheap and add up fast. Insurance doesn't cover 100% of labwork for me. Plus, for me, it's the principle of it - blood type doesn't change, rubella immunity doesn't change. I guess I'm against unnecessary giving of blood (I'm selfish that way, lol). I dodged the vampire (phlebotomist) who came to take blood after I had my last baby. What was the point???

I didn't refuse any of these, I figured I was going to pick enough battles as it was. The only blood test I've refused so far was the cystic fibrosis carrier test for DH (who is petrified of needles). It didn't make sense to me to have him tested unless I came back positive, you know?
And I definitely am going to let her do as many Hep B tests as she wants on me, because it will make it a little easier going when I refuse to let them vax the baby for it at birth.
I just went along with it. It's covered by my insurance and I guess I just don't care. There's no threat to me or the baby from them taking blood from me and it will be good to know I'm healthy (even though I already knew that) when I refuse all the newborn vaxes and eye ointments and stuff.

(All of these PR's are going down this season!)
If your insurance doesn't cover all the test then I totally see why you'd want to refuse those tests but if they're taking blood and testing it anyways why refuse?
its mandatory here. i guess it depends where you live. i think its more of a safety net for the drs and hospitals in case you can pass something on to baby
I declined the HIV test. I didn't feel like doing the blood type stuff. Seems stupid. I've been O+ my whole life, not like that's going to change. I don't quite get why they check that every pregnancy. They should be able to just check past records you would think.
^^I'm so glad you posted as I was wondering what you do. I'm definitely going to refuse the b/w this time. Should be interesting to see what my OB says.

Some of it, like blood type, my office only does once and then they mark it in your file so they never need to test it again. Then other things like anemia they check for more frequently since you can become anemic so easily. Your office may only order some of those things and not all.
I had my blood work done but my insurance pays 100% of it so I just did it. I don't blame you one bit for declining it - you've been there done that! No need to pay for something that isn't necessary.

yeah if I had to pay for it separately I would agree to anemia testing and then do your GTT later to test for diabetes. Since it's the same to me either way, I didn't really care. I did refuse the HIV testing. Since I am having a home birth I won't have any testing after delivery or anything, but my Peri will also want to do bloodwork.
