......have been taken by the animals in my family!
For real, I need to start thinking ahead when I name my pets from now on. I got my girl dog from a shelter in 2003 and named her Maisie, which I totally love for a baby girl. I had a beagle for a long time named Eli, which I think is such an awesome name for a boy. My brother's boxer is named Maya - which I would also use for a girl. We're great at picking names apparently but use all the best ones on the pets!
Anyone else have a name you'd use except for the fact that it's already been used for an animal?

I totally understand. We have a cat that's name is Lacy, but we call her little cat...LOL
But my step daughter's name is Alexis and my grandma's dog is Lexi. So when we go to visit, my aunt ends up call my step daughter Lexi. I want to yell at her and tell her she is not a dog!!

that sucks! I like the name Leandra, but my DH is against it because someone used it as a character name in the role playing games when he was young. I say so what! And then there is Hunter, which reminds him of someone he works with.

Trish my DH does that too and it drives me up the wall! The one name I was in love with for a boy this time he shot down because it's supposedly a character in Children of the Corn (which I have never even watched). I was so mad at him with DS because every name I suggested he would say he knew someone who was a jerk with that name or that it was a character in a movie he didn't like.....

LOL luckily my family likes to keep animal names "cutesy" or funny. Like our cats have been Ewok, Hunny Bunny, Peego... the dogs have been Dixie, Dottie, Raider, Grim, Patches, King Louie and Fefe.
My DF was picking names that I just didnt like though, luckily we decided peacefully LOL

I struggle with that. But when I named my pets I used names I would like but dh said no way for our kids. Like Rory, Love the name, but he won't let me use it for a kid

That's ok. The only names that my SO seems to be pulling are from various animes, lol. We were briefly talking about names yesterday and if it's a girl he wants to call her Kanami ((kahn-a-may)). While I know a few might give weird looks or raised brows for a name like that, I actually like the sound and that it's NOT something you here every day and would actually possibly go with something like that, particularly since it's not a name I'm familiar with or have preconceived notions about. However, I love the name Dillon, but that is the name of a friend's horse that I trained extensively for years and I can't see myself calling my child Dillon because my mind instantly pictures the horse. However if I were absolutely set on one name, it wouldn't matter what else in the world has been called that because that's what I want to call my child.

My two girl Boston Terriers are Emma and Ellie. I have always loved the name Emma, but I felt that it was too popular so I named my dog that. Then Ellie I thought was cute, and it went with Emma so that was my second one. I've grown to love Ellie more as a little girl's name now, but obviously it's out.

I think we'll have a real hard time agreeing on a boy name. DH is insisting that he wants to give him an ancient name like Gilgamesh....Oh God help me. I've told him NO WAY JOSE! So I'm sure we'll go back and forth until the end. But Kris you are right, if it's a name I really love I'll fight for it.

I have dogs named Eli and Finn.
My sister had a baby last year & named him Finn! I tell that dog that he has a cousin with the same name...
I like the names, but I wouldn't use them for my own kids.

I don't think I've ever had a pet that I said, "Man, that would be my perfect kid name." I do have a lot of names I don't like b/c I associate them with people I know (old high school crushes, extended family members, etc.). All our childrens' names will be J names, so that limits my field ... and I don't think I've ever had a pet with a J name. =D
Our current animals are a dog, Luna, and a cat, Purrshia (who we usually just call kitty ... or when we're mad at her "Cat!!" lol). I've had animals named Casey, Callie, Brandy Muffin, Tao, Sammie, Bamma, Montana, and Rocky ... again, no J names. =D

I've had pets named Ellie (who also goes by Bella), Zoe, Tess & Maia...all of which I love for girls names. I guess that's why I named my dog/cats that. LOL, but I would love a little girl named Tess/Tessa, but it's never going to happen.

ROFLMBO, our dog came to us named already so that has not been an issue in our house. Of course we are running out of names for different reasons here.

Luckily my pet names are names I would never use for kids.........growing up we had a dog named Bandit, then DH and I had a dog named Buddy now we have Daisy.
My problem w/ names is that all the names I love are taken by people we know........like friends of family

HAHA! All of our pets have weird names... I've had Moose, Thunder, Bear, Ralph, Bandit, Chevy, Lexus, Cleo, Ladybug, Deuces (as in Deuce's Wild), Butterscotch, Licorice, Voodoo, etc. And we now have Patch and Scoops!
We still wanted a name with no associations for either of us so we ended up combining two names into a new (but not unheard of) name!

Hmm...I blame my sister; she had to name her spoiled little dog Max so now I can't use it without some really, really weird looks from my family, lol. And I named my cats before I realized I'd ever have another child so my three favorite girl names - Lucy, Ruby and Isolde are taken as well.
